About this listen

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

Spencer Bailey has spent his entire life under government oversight for something he can’t change: his magic’s affinity for breaking souls. After surviving the end of the world, Spencer joins the Supernatural Operations Agency with the intention of keeping his head down and his hands clean.

Tasked with tracking down a stolen artifact, Spencer wants to run his first case with the SOA by the book. The master vampire of the Seattle Night Court won’t make that easy. Takoma is demanding and possessive, used to getting what he wants, and he lures Spencer into his Night Court with the seductive promise of freedom.

In the Pacific Northwest, ghosts are crawling out of the woodwork, demons are on the rise, and Spencer can’t afford to make a mistake. Torn between the life he should lead and the one Takoma is offering, Spencer has to make a choice that won’t break his soul, but it might just shatter his heart.

Exciting, Suspenseful, Heart-stopping

I was absolutely thrilled to see that Hailey Turner was giving us another foray into the Soulbound Universe. It could never have been as good as the original/main story (I mean, that series went on for several books and included many complex god and pack relationships). but that doesn't mean it was not an exciting, suspenseful adventure. Resurrection is a fantastic thrill ride focusing on one of Patrick's fellow mages, Spencer Bailey and his cohort Fatima. the soul breakers. Spencer is assigned a case to track down a missing artifact in Seattle. There is a shady witch coven, a new night court. and of course a Master Vampire. After dealing with the slick and self-centered Lucian, Takoma is a bit of fresh(er) air. He puts his own interests first, too, but they include the interests of friends. human servants. and allies. too...and before long, Spencer. I enjoyed the adventure and mystery. along with watching the (smoking hot) relationship develop between Spencer and Takoma. They share a sort of kinship, and it turns out they might be what each other didn't know they needed. Great story, exciting and heart-stopping, with plenty of steam. I would love to see more of Spencer's further adventures in Seattle.

The narration was great, but for the first time ever, I had to slow down the narration. It just seemed like it was moving a click too fast, so I put it down to ,9x and it sounded perfect and natural.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A universe I can never have enough of

"I'm not the government. Not here, in your home. In your heart."

Gary is an amazing narrator and it is always so good to listen to his narrations. Together with Hailey's stories, you don't just listen to the story, you get to experience it, to live it. Emotions, expressions and action, everything comes through.

When it comes to the story you get fast paced action, plentiful chemistry between Takoma and Spencer, touch him and see what happens goodness, cameos from some of our favourite characters and of course just a bit of angst to top it all of.

Takoma and Spencer's story ends in strong HFN and I'm having my fingers crossed that when we get Wade's story it'll be a bit further along in the future and see how things are for everyone, what with a certain auction and a certain artifact, Takoma had his eye on for Spencer.

Brilliant Story & Listen🎧Gripping & Fascinating!

Hailey Turner pens another winning novel, a fascinating paranormal urban fantasy that is captivating from start to end. It is a standalone set in her “Soulbound Universe”, a world I am new to and I did not feel lost or if I had missed something not having have read the “Soulbound” series. The only thing it did make feel was that I need to get that series pronto! This book is Spencer Bailey’s story, he joined the “Supernatural Operations Agency”, if you can say join, because of who and what he was there was not much of a choice. Regardless, he plans to go by the book and stay under the radar. His first assignment is to locate a stolen artifact, and it brings him to the Pacific Northwest and right into the territory of the master vampire of the Seattle Night Court, Takoma. OMG, who would have thought the chemistry between a soul breaker and a vampire could be so hot, the push and pull between them was amazing. I loved everything about this book, from Hailey Turner’s wonderful writing style and descriptive details, to the fantastic characters and storylines she created to the perfectly cast narrator who brings it all to life from the pages to your ears. The plotting and world building are phenomenal, as are the character growth and development. It is an action-packed story with non-stop drama, some thrilling and suspenseful moments, some humor and wit, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Besides the fabulous two lead characters, there is Fatima, Spencer’ psychopomp and sidekick. Hailey Turner, thank you for another fabulously entertaining story and the wild ride.

🎧📚🎧And for the fantastic narration, Gary Furlong talent knows no bounds, and he does an amazing job portraying these characters. His versatility was impressive and truly shined as he gave each character a distinct voice and played each role convincingly. He was fabulous with the back-and-forth dialogue, switching roles effortlessly and never missing a beat. Furlong sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions and projects them into his performance, having you feel them all. He is an entertaining storyteller and his narration enhances an already brilliant story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

A perfect return to the Soulbound world

It's so good to be back in the Soulbound universe! It's one of my favourite series to read and listen to with several much loved characters, two of them being Spencer and his psychopomp, Fatima.
This is a standalone story from the original series with just guest appearances from one or two people and references to events at the end of those books. This book takes place nearly two years later, finds Spencer now working for the SOA, off to work in Seattle to try and recover an artifact that was stolen and can be used to bring demons through the veil from hell. Within the first day of two, he comes across Takoma, the Master vampire of the Seattle Night Court and they share an intensity on page from the get go. Clearly there was some sort of connection made when they fought together in New York but now Spencer is in Takoma's home town and all bets are off. Spencer is determined to work the case as close to the rules as he can but the work he does with spirits, souls and demons is not known for that, and especially as he has to now keep the tenuous situation with Takoma under wraps.
The tension between the two men is sooo good! Spencer is trying to deny himself but the body wants what Takoma can give him and the master vampire has no desire to hold back. Things are hot and heavy between them but both are very protective of the other, sometimes to the extreme annoyance of the other man. It makes for some very entertaining reading when they are together, whether it's business or personal. When it comes to the case, it felt slightly overwhelming as we add in all of the different character types with mages, humans, werecreatures, vampires, demons and more. However, when you're in deep with the story, it's so easy to fall into that things unfold and make sense as Fatima will tell Spencer if things are good or not (definitely want my own psychopomp). Spencer dances along the lines of professional conduct but ensures that things can be covered by law and keeps Takoma and his vampires safe at the same time.
Another fantastic dive back into this world from Hailey Turner! I'm glad that we got interaction with some known characters but especially so that Spencer gets 100% of his own story told. Now I'm just hoping that Wade will eventually get his turn and all will be right with the world :-)
Gary Furlong's return to this world is superb! He perfectly conveys all of the action, drama and emotion of all of the characters and had me gripped from the first chapter. Listening to Gary narrate makes it so much easier for me to fall into this world that I love.

great story and brilliant narration

This is my first book by Hailey Turner and it makes me want to read the rest of the series.
It's about Spencer, who sets out for Seattle to find a stolen artifact. As soon as he arrives in Seattle, he meets Takoma, the master vampire. There is a connection between the two from the beginning, going back to when they met in New York at an earlier time. But Seattle is Takoma's hometown and there is a new chance for the two.
I loved the sizzle that was palpable between the two men whenever they met. And guys, there are some really hot scenes. Takoma and Spencer run into each other more often, sometimes on business and sometimes in private. All the while, Spencer tries to act professional while protecting Takoma and his vampires.
Spencer and Takoma could not be more different. A mage who lives in the light and a vampire who needs the darkness. An interesting constellation and yet they are meant for each other.
Very interesting were also the different species that exist in this story. Besides humans and were-creatures, there are vampires, demons and mages.
I found the story very entertaining and that I could put myself in the story well, that was also due to Gary Furlong. He conveys the emotions of the different characters as well as the drama and action and I could tell the different protagonists apart. Gary Furlong did a brilliant job and Hailey Turner created a fantastic world.
Highly recommended!

Wonderful!

This book is part of the Soulbound Universe and Spencer and Takoma's story is a great addition to the series and in a way a very expected one. I enjoyed the plot, the action and danger, the magic and of course the heartwarming moments and all the steam. Mr. Furlong really captured the essence of the characters and trapped me since the beginning with his beautiful voice and amazing acting skills. A very enjoyable book and a wonderful new story in the series.

An enjoyable fantasy novel to listen to

I didn't realise this was a spinoff or addition to the Soulbound series when I started listening to it, so initially I did feel like I was missing some important background story. I soon became invested in Spencer and Takoma's story and was able to piece together enough to understand the backstory and what had previously happened.

The narrator did a great job bringing the characters to life and I loved the world Hailey Turner has created and will be reading the Soulbound series sometime in the future.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between Spencer and Takoma and was really pleased with how events turned out in the end.

I enjoyed the magic and shifters and all the other aspects of this fantasy world. A really enjoyable fantasy novel to listen to.
