Summary

A Goth, two therapists, and a whole bunch of dead people. What could possibly go wrong?

Rio hires a therapist but what she wants is way outside of the sphere of psychotherapy. She needs Leyla to accompany her to Elysium and help bring back her dead father.

Swapping gender and a ferry ride across the river Styx is just the start of a comic adventure where nothing is what it appears and everything is constantly changing.

Well written story, good with a few reservations…

Rio in Elysium is a well written book, with very good characterisation. The history seems to be well researched and overall its a cracking good yarn! The start of the story is good, but I think it focuses too much on Ursula and not enough on Rio. As we get into the story, it has wonderful ideas which have been thought out well. The ending however is a bit sudden. It seems as though the first three quarters of the book have been thought out well, but the author lost interest and added a quick ending. We didn’t get enough about the war scene, and the characters running off seems a cop-out. Also too many loose ends. What about the temple and the moving statues, the bread, the war, Mark not remembering, the time anomalies, no discussion between the characters after they return… It looks as though the author is leaving an opening for another book, going by the last scene in this book.
To summarise, I think this could have been a much longer book, with more development.
Nicole’s reading was very good, and made listening to the book very enjoyable. A smooth voice…

Enthralling

This audible book had me gripped from the beginning.
A fascinating story that moved along at an enjoyable rate. As listeners we get to know each character as the story unfolds.
J.J. Kennard shows his knowledge of Roman History in an entertaining way.
There is a sprinkling of humour too which made me laugh out loud.
As the story moves to it's climax one gets carried along with the emotions of each of the characters.
A gem of a book.
