Though the murder mystery angle reaches a satisfying conclusion, Weber's real strength is his gentle humor and perceptive eye toward both fly fishing and small town life, all of which is magnified by the unfussy and charming performance of Steven Menasche. Menasche conveys a colloquial quality to Weber's folksy prose, turning Riverwatcher into the rare mystery that's as easy-going as the fly-fishing that dominates its narrative.
