Summary
Jinta
He’s a yakuza with secrets. I’m the reporter determined to bring them to light.
When people start going missing, I sense a story that could make my whole career. I even have the perfect suspect: Raiden Noboru, enforcer for the most powerful yakuza organization in Japan.
The plan is simple: go undercover as "Hiro" the photographer, cozy up to Raiden, and discover all he knows about the disappearances.
Problem is? Raiden isn't the monster I thought he was. The beast beneath his skin is fiercely protective of what's his, but he worships my body and soul, showing me a tender side of himself he hides from the rest of the world.
But I've got a story to tell. All I have to do... is betray the man I'm falling for.
Raiden
I stopped believing in fated mates long ago. Love only ends in heartbreak.
Ever since I was a boy, my only purpose has been to serve the Namikawa-kai.
Until him. The minute I see Hiro smile like a sunbeam and catch his cherry blossom scent, I've got to have him. What I thought would be a casual fling becomes so much more. Hiro is mine. Mine to care for, mine to protect. No one else can have him.
Before I realize it, I'm beginning to dream of a life outside the yakuza, a life with Hiro. Too bad that’s all it’ll ever be. A dream. I’ll never make someone as innocent as Hiro happy. I’m a criminal, and I’m no good for him…
…But I can’t stay away from him.
Secrets & Sake is book 1 in A Paranormal Yakuza Duet. It features insta-love, fated mates and wolf shifters, a sunshine undercover reporter and the grumpy yakuza soft only for him, loads of possessive touch-him-and-die vibes, plenty of searingly hot spice, and a Happy-For-Now conclusion.

Yakuza, Mythical Beasts and Fated Mates
Possessive mates, werewolves, gangs, kn0tting spice, an abundance of hurt/comfort and a plot that just kept turning - all the things that can make me feral for a story, and it's safe to say I absolutely adored this book. I was completely infatuated with the backdrop of Tokyo crime lords, undercover reporters and mythical beasts. The two MCs have boatloads of painful history and hangups holding them back from just giving into their fated mate bond, despite the very insta-lust/love vibe they have going on and I was breathless to the end waiting for them to get some resolution. As it's a duet we have a HFN with a bit of a cliffhanger, but it's such a beast of a book (nearly 10hrs long) I was very happy with where it ended, while still very much looking forward to book 2. The narration is outstanding, with clearly defined characters and a werewolf growl to make you swoon.

lots of suspence
The narrator really fit the story, very pleasant voice.
A paranormal Japanese yakuza story with many tension filled events. Both MCs had really unhappy pasts and Raiden, despite being a strong werewolf enforcer, was still suffering appalling abuse. I would have liked to read more positive moments to temper all the horrible situations. The ending is HFN but not a horrible cliffhanger. The second part promises even more danger and suspence.

MM - Shifter - Fated Mates - Mafia
Discover a unique blend of shifter-fated mates and Mafia in this MM romance. What more could you ask for out of a book?
As a newcomer to both the author and the narrator, I embarked on this literary journey with no preconceived notions. To my delight, I found myself captivated by the story from the very beginning.
We meet Jinta (Hiro), a journalist and a human who is unaware that shifters even exist. He's a disappointment to his family and is looking for a big story to make them proud, but he unearths far more.
Raiden, part of the Yakuza organisation, is a powerful enforcer and werewolf shifter.
When the two meet, Raiden feels the pull but ignores it.
Despite their undeniable connection, Jinta and Raiden face insurmountable obstacles that threaten to keep them apart.
It's a well-written book, enjoyable, and with good character depth. I enjoyed the world-building that helped me envision the book and its characters.
Nick Cracknell did a great job narrating this book. He brought the characters to life and made the experience enjoyable. I would recommend this book.

VERY GOOD
Mafia, shifters, fated mate & touch him and die!
It was my first book by this author and I quite enjoyed it! The narrator was also new-to-me and I mostly enjoyed his narration-sometime I found it a bit off but not enough to damper my enjoyment of the audiobook.
Now patiently wainting for the second book to be available in audio to complete this duet.

A heart-pounding story and steamy romance
Raiden and Jinta's story made my heart race for all the right reasons. I was hooked by the blend of yakuza and paranormal elements in this book, and the connection between the leads was fiery from the start. Raiden was a fascinating character to unravel--a fierce warrior for sure, but also a man who'd been tossed around and forced into horrible situations that had made him give up on love and independence. Meeting Jinta was the shock to his system he needed to fight for the life he wanted again, and I absolutely loved the possessive, "touch him and die" energy he had any time he was around Jinta. Jinta had his own motivations for getting tangled up with the yakuza, but most of that fell away in the face of his and Raiden's chemistry. I do think I would have liked to see more of the side investigation Jinta had going on, especially since it was being set up as a big betrayal later on in the book, but I certainly won't complain about the buffet of steamy moments I got to experience instead. As much as I adored the passion Raiden and Jinta shared, their quieter moments were what really made me believe in their growing affection for each other. Raiden had kept his secrets locked up tight for so long, but for Jinta he dropped some of those walls and allowed himself to be vulnerable. In turn, Jinta shared the deepest parts of himself with Raiden, including the emotional scars left behind from his family's dismissiveness. The sweetness of Jinta and Raiden's relationship was a welcome distraction from the rest of the story, where the tension between yakuza clans was heating up and the abduction of innocent civilians continued without explanation. It wasn't until the very end that the pieces of the puzzle finally came together to explain the bigger picture, and what a fight it turned out to be for Raiden and Jinta to hold onto each other. I'm desperate to read the second half of this duet and figure out how they're going to defeat the kitsune, and if this book has taught me anything it's that the road to their happy ending is going to be a hard-fought battle.

Wow
I didn’t know anything about this audio when I dove in and I’m so glad I took the chance on it. I love stories set in foreign locales and Japan is certainly that for me.
I really liked Jinta. The reporter who never gets to tell the important stories. Then he gets a lead on a big one and goes undercover to ferret out the truth. He only has to cozy up to Raiden and he believes everything will be solved.
Raiden doesn’t realize “Hiro” is a journalist. He just thinks the young man is a talented photographer. And it’s lust from first sight – for both of them. Raiden’s an enforcer. It’s a nasty job. But he’s in deep with the gang and there’s no escape.
Until the night it all goes wrong.
The question was, of course, would the bond they’d formed get them through the crisis or would they forever be parted? The story has a happily for now, so I got my answer. It’s a duo, though, so I’m really looking forward to the second half.
Nick Cracknell is a new to me narrator but I have to stay he did a stellar job with all the accents. With the different voices. He truly made the story the best it can possibly be. That’s what makes a great narrator. I can’t wait for the conclusion of Raiden and Jinta’s story.

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Intriguing & Intense!
This is my first book written by CJ Ravenna and I enjoyed her writing style and creative mind. The story she created, an action packed paranormal MM romance, is original with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are intriguing and relatable story with Jinta Onodera, an investigative reporter, is looking for his big break story, one that will make him known and he wants to prove to his family that he is not the failure that they think he is. There have been a lot of missing person cases in the city and he wants to get close to the one person whose name popped up as the last person who had seen a couple of them, Raiden Noboru, an enforcer for yakuza, an organized crime syndicate in Japan. And when they met, he was not expecting to feel such a connection with Raiden. Raiden has secrets, his biggest being what he is, a wolf shifter, another being who is he bound to and serves. Jinta has his foot in the door and the two not only hit it off, but there is a deep and smoking hot chemistry between them, one they can not deny. He delves into a world he was not aware of, a supernatural world, and he handles it all bravely and brilliantly. His feelings for Raiden are real, but he never stopped working on his investigation, which may come back to haunt him in the end. This is a busy story with lots of layers and depth, a story that has plenty of drama, angst, action, mystery, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. The plot, world building and character development are fantastic. CJ Ravenna, thank you for this terrific story and the wild ride.
🎧📚🎧 Nick Cracknell did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice, accents and all, making it easy to follow along and tell who was who. He had a complete understanding of the characters he was portraying and was believable in each role, showcasing the two lead character’s personality perfectly. Cracknell’s pacing and tone were great, handing the dialogue naturally, and he captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the terrific listen.
