Meditation for girls (and some other useful bits)
Though I know these shorter courses don’t- if there’s ever one I would really want the PDF transcript for its this one…
Because otherwise I’ve dropped so many markers in that I’m going to have to go back and listen to for making notes- as I’m sure with many- the benefit of audible is listening on the move but countless times I thought ‘Ah this is great information for/would develop into a great session/programme for the kids I work with!
Would love to just scroll and read back- even click a link to one of the many resources quoted rather than basically listen to the whole thing again ha.
But obviously it’s worthwhile.
Lady is proper chill as well.
But yea it is very much heavy on the meditation practice which I’m sure won’t suit everyone’s style, just so happens I’m all in on that so I get it. Though I’m pretty sure it was in every lecture, there was a momentary mention of biology within the teenage body, though something I also already know I feel like this is something that deserves more time of content and perhaps a bit of the meditating could have made way for science then there would have been a nice balance of social, biological & practical discussion.
Decent for a mini course though. For anyone that encounters growing humans… probably up to the age of 25 or more! Plenty adults can take for themselves also

Not just for teens,girls & parents
This is a mindfulness based approach (with somatic experiencing- feeling emotions in the body) with some tips on managing toxic relationships and includes a guided visualisation (which I've seen helps with the emotional pain of suicidal thoughts) with some observations (not all correct/too generalised) about teen girls.
The chapter on self esteem was surprisingly interesting.
This is a bit of an advertisement of her mindfulness course.If you just want the mindfulness you can find the meditations /very slightly different versions on YouTube ,also good if you don't find her voice is relaxing for meditation.
If you look for : " Self-Compassion: Compassionate Friend (Audio Meditation)" on YouTube there are many different ones short & long ,all meditations are from the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Program developed by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff these meditations, could be a step before the Loving Kindness – Compassion Exercise (Metta Meditation) where saying the phrases may be too aversive/foreign & abstract..
Self compassion break was the 2nd meditation. Giving & receiving practice was the 3rd
If you have aphantasia (struggle to visualise ) " First This " mindfulness on YouTube may be better & her soothing voice is quite popular.
If feeling the emotions in your body is too intense I would suggest NeuroMastery (Daimon Sweeney) or emotional freedom techniques (Brad Yates) or havening (Kate Truitt has some guided meditations on YouTube that cover this & various meditation styles,so does Hello Inner Light ) which help take the edge off when sitting with one's feeling. I've seen those to be more helpful for anxiety & strong emotions especially when dealing with c-PTSD that seems to require multiple approaches to reduce symptoms. I wish she had addressed the subject of trauma which is often a common cause of anxiety,depression & a whole host of mental illnesses,or that some people may struggle to sit still & meditate, so something like yoga may suit them better to help them get back into their bodies.
It has a few tips on mindfulness apps,which will probably become outdated soon.
Where this falls short - only a few meditations & the examples of what to say to oneself when practicing self compassion I did not find so helpful/could be more triggering. Wish it had gone more in depth especially with more difficult cases & how to adapt this for the neuro-divergent people.
A good freebie,as an introduction. It was actually a little relaxing to listen to if you reduce the speed a little.
