Superb details as usual

Although It occurred to me, that with musket fire at 4 rounds a minute and only vaguely accurate at 60 yards. Almost face to face and hardly no time to reload .

When you consider that a long bow archer is lethal and faster at 200 yards, warfare went both forwards and backwards 😑

nothing of note

I have listened to all previous Sharpe stories but this one had a poorest storyline so far .Will not stop listening to more as characters are engaging and narration brilliant.

Good but not the best of the series

Good book, definitely don't skip it, but the story is rather weak compared to the rest of the series unfortunately. same story of sharpe being cut off from the rest of the army, same story of a beautiful woman, same battles, but just haphazardly jammed together with very little characterisation. continues the general sharpe theme of ending without giving you any (sorely sought after) post - story roundup or conclusion- I often sorely wish that the story would continue for a few months after to see how everything developed or impacted the wider campaign.

Excellent story, and superb narration

I’m gradually working my way through the series on audio having read the books. As much as I enjoyed the book the narrator adds further pleasure.

This action adventure will glue you in

A definite 3 parter. Part one, the setup and backstory. Part 2, Richard Sharpe the rogue plies his trade. Part 3, the battle.

It has the hallmarks of a Sharpe story. A mission. Intrigue. Connections to the highest historical characters. A little gold. A woman - who he doesn’t keep and… a fierce battle where the thin red line savages the French to bloody ruin, again, with volley after volley and a charge of cold steel.

This one is viscous and has a touch of espionage and real suspense. It’d make a good Hollywood movie.

If you like Sharpe. You’ll like this. It’s one of the better ones.

I’ve come to rely on Rupert Farley to present these. There’s no one else for me now in this world, when I go to war with Sharpe, Harper, Harris and Hagman.

Great

Really enjoyed this book . The historical notes pages from the end of all the Sharpe books are not included which is a bit disappointing as I like to find out which characters and events are real in the book . This is my only quibble however and I would thoroughly recommend it !!
