Summary
Man vs Machine
It is 1895, and Sherlock Holmes is settling back into life as a consulting detective at 221B Baker Street, when he and Watson learn of strange goings-on amidst the dreaming spires of Oxford.
A Professor Quantock has built a wondrous computational device, which he claims is capable of analytical thought to rival the cleverest men alive. Naturally Sherlock Holmes cannot ignore this challenge. He and Watson travel to Oxford, where a battle of wits ensues between the great detective and his mechanical counterpart as they compete to see which of them can be first to solve a series of crimes, from a bloody murder to a missing athlete. But as man and machine vie for supremacy, it becomes clear that the Thinking Engine has its own agenda…

not my favourite of the Lovegrove/Holmes books
Story good but not quite as excellent as others in this series.
Dennis Kleinman's otherwise excellent narration was marred a little by slightly jarring mispronunciation of some famous Oxford and Oxfordshire locations - something that the editor or a little research could have avoided.

Let down by sloppy narration
If you are going to narrate a story about Oxford, you would think that the narrator would take the time to find out how to pronounce the key places that recur throughout the story. Magdalen, Bailliol and St Giles are all mispronounced. No idea what accent the Oxford policeman had but it certainly wasn't anywhere close to Oxford.

Very good stuff and good plot twists
The plot was nice and would love to have more of the books and the voices were good you knew the different characters!!!

Yet another gripping tale
I throughly enjoyed this story among Lovegroves collection of Sherlock stories. His interpretation of the detective and sidekick are superb and meld together so well with his previous stories as well as classic tales. The narration is fantastic and I simply get lost listening to the different voices and tones used to create each character.

The plot
I have enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes books by James Lovegrove read by Dennis Kleinman. An good performance marred by some execrable mispronunciations of some common English words. I see Mr Kleinman is from South Africa.

Lovegrove and Kleinman great combination
I have finally listened to all the books by James Lovegrove with Dennis narrating and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I’m a big Sherlock fan so it’s amazing to hear the adventures continue.

A stretch
I sometimes find Lovegroves stories on the fantastical side compared to some of the more logical and cunning solutions in the original Conan Doyle works. This is one of those cases, but enjoyable none the less.

Worthy of tv series
Everything about this is top notch except Oxford and would grace a tv series but the pronunciations aren’t spot on - especially Magdalen College! - (Maudlin)
