About this listen

Thirlmere hides a deadly secret...

Drought hits the Lake District, uncovering a skeleton at the bottom of Thirlmere reservoir. The case quickly becomes personal for DI Kelly Porter when she discovers it's the remains of an old classmate, missing for over twenty years.

Then a day later, another body is found in a caravan park, its head broken and bloody.

Kelly suspects these two crimes are linked. But if she's right, that means there's a ruthless killer somewhere in her community – someone who will do anything to keep the truth buried...

A brilliantly clever, 'finish-in-one-night' murder mystery starring the hugely popular DI Kelly Porter, set in the stunning mountains and valleys of the Lake District. A must-read from million copy bestseller Rachel Lynch, for fans of L. J. Ross, Carol Wyer and Angela Marsons.

Critic reviews

This series has yet to have a book that I did not like. I could not believe the thrills from this book… one after the other!
-- Reader review

Read it, you won't be disappointed. I LOVE these books. I found Rachel Lynch a few years back and she's now one of my favourite authors.

I love this series! I think I've read all the books in it by now so am fully invested in the lives of the team. The characters are believable and likeable. My only problem with the book? I've finished it and have to wait for the next instalment!
-- Reader review

This is the eleventh in Rachel Lynch's excellent series and a brilliant addition. A first-class read.

Kelly Porter series is gripping, tense and fantastically written.

I loved listening to all the DI Kelly Porter series over the last 12 months. After each book I couldn’t wait to start the next one. Love the stories relating to the real world and the lakes references. Please hurry up and write more.

Best One Yet.

Totally compelling storyline and characterisation.

I've been quick to complain about inconsistencies in the past, but this one felt more controlled and developed. It was also utterly heartbreaking and after I'd gasped at a shock, and had to relisten to be sure I'd heard right, I actually got a little teary.

everything seems real.

The main character seems like anybody's daughter or sister. A gripping read and very enjoyable but totally believable.

The overall plot

The narration was excellent, liked how the characters were developed with flashbacks to the school years.

Good story, awful Scottish accent.

The story is ok, meanders along, but the Scottish accent is so bad it’s hard to listen to!

Dull

Dreary monotone narration & pointless story. I know that the reviews say it's great but I shouldn't have to wait for so long for these people's colourless lives to unfold

Slow moving and overly wordy.

Not exactly a page turner. Lots of he said she said with characters added for plot but not adding anything. Not her best.

The appalling attempt at a Scottish accent.

Oh dear, where do I start ? Worst attempt I have ever heard at a Scottish accent - Glaswegian with tones of Braw bricht moonlit nicht !( Maybe this was meant to be funny?) Well OTT with anti-male & anti-teacher sentiments - has author got a past? Shame, because the story itself was reasonable.
