About this listen

The electrifying new novel from the Man Booker-shortlisted author of Everything Under.

After a serious case of school bullying becomes too much to bear, sisters July and September move across the country with their mother to a long-abandoned family home.

In their new and unsettling surroundings, July finds that the deep bond she has always had with September - a closeness that not even their mother is allowed to penetrate - is starting to change in ways she cannot entirely understand.

Inside the house the tension among the three women builds, while outside the sisters meet a boy who tests the limits of their shared experiences.

With its roots in psychological horror, Sisters is a taut, powerful and deeply moving account of sibling love that cements Daisy Johnson's place as one of the most inventive and exciting young writers at work today.

Okay

Beautiful prose, short, and easy to listen to. I think where this falls down is perhaps because of its length. Not long enough to get really invested into the characters, and not short enough for the stories plot to have a punch.

It was okay, maybe I expected too much.

Disappointing

Perhaps I was hoping for too much after Fen and Everything Inside, but I found this latest take to be a big disappointment. There is none of the incredible atmosphere and evocation of place that those other books contained, and little of the creativity and weirdness (though there is some). The plot twist is a well worn path. It felt robotic. Perhaps writing has just become a job to Daisy?

This is a very well written and read book. The story and the narrator keeps you hooked.

breathtaking . gripping

I really enjoyed this story. it's the first Daisy Johnson story I've read through audible, and the narrators have done it incredible justice. the bluntness and style of Daisy Johnson's story has shone through and I'm incredibly blessed to have discovered this book. Highly recommended read.

Didn't really engage me

This book is well written, and is an interesting exploration of sibling relationships, but I wasn't really engaged by the characters. It is a short listen and I was interested enough to finish it, but it isn't a book I would particularly recommend to others.

Sisters

Not really my cup of tea and I lost concentration at times, but nothing more to say really.

Chilling

Quick and chilling listen although definitely felt like it was missing more depth - of plot, of character?
