Summary

From her first day at Westwind Cremation & Burial, 23-year-old Caitlin Doughty threw herself into her curious new profession. Coming face-to-face with the very thing we go to great lengths to avoid thinking about, she started to wonder about the lives of those she cremated and the mourning families they left behind, and found herself confounded by people's erratic reactions to death.

Exploring our death rituals - and those of other cultures - she pleads the case for healthier attitudes around death and dying. Full of bizarre encounters, gallows humour and vivid characters (both living and very dead), this illuminating account makes this otherwise terrifying subject inviting and fascinating.

Just perfect

Really enjoyed this book and the reading. just perfect for me. Learned my rights and that has helped me a great deal. No longer will my loved ones take their last journey alone. I will be witness right to the end. Thank you for writing such an enlightening book..

Good insight in to this job, I think I was read very well and well worth listening to as long as you are not of a weak disposition as some bit are quite indepth into death.

Well read and informative.

"Read by the author" is usually a red-flag that it will be read badly (Many great writers read aloud and don't narrate). This is narrated well and I found it engaging and informative. Recommending to friends...

A rational approach to death

I listen to loads of books and seldom write a review but, as someone who has worked in the health profession, this was a refreshing look at the lack of discussion and fear associated with such a natural process. Funny, poignant and informative, a guide to living as much as dying.

Everyone should read this book.

Enlightening, informative and really positive. The author is a great narrator of her own work.

Dark, funny and informative

absolutely love Caitlin after finding her YouTube channel years ago. the way she tells her story is so human and relatable and also teaches so much abou the death industry generally. a fascinating listen and really engaging, she manages to convey the gravity of these situations and topics whilst also adding plenty of dark humour to keep it interesting and not too heavy. anything by her is always a winner to me

Wonderful

Loved it. I'm so glad she narrated it herself, it plays like an extended video from her YouTube channel. This is more emotional and autobiographical than From Here to Eternity (which I read first) which is probably why I enjoyed it even more. Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? is next on my list.
