Summary
Der junge Leutnant Wilhelm Kasda wird von seinem ehemaligen Dienstkamerad aufgesucht, der ihn um 960 Gulden anfleht, da er sich aus der Firmenkasse bedient hat und nun Angst hat, dies könnte ans Tageslicht kommen. Da Wilhelm jedoch selbst nur 120 Gulden besitzt, beschließt er das Geld für seinen Freund am Spieltisch zu gewinnen. Beim Kartenspiel mit Herren der besseren Gesellschaft, unter ihnen ein zwielichtiger Konsul, gewinnt Wilhelm auf die Schnelle über tausend Gulden. Eine Reihe von Zufällen bringen Wilhelm im Laufe der Nacht jedoch immer wieder zurück zum Spiel und zur schönen Leopoldine Labus, einem Schatten seiner Vergangenheit.

Excellent listen
A classical Schnitzler novel and an excellent listen for that spare hour in between. Christian Dolezal's narration is very engaging.
