A little bit like a filler episode

Great narration as always by Marc Thompson - this man is truly the best thing about Star Wars in the Disney Star Wars era. While the writing is still great in this book the overall story does little to advance the whole plot and the series is starting to feel a little stretched. I hope it concludes in the next book so as not to mar the overall quality of the series. Still well worth the listen though.

amazing

another awesome book! another step towards this epic story

I do have one issue as the books seems to take a turn out of nowhere which is strange after the carefully planned story we have so far.

I won't drop any spoilers.

still a great story , can't wait for the next book

Character focused and less action

Previous High republic novels have felt like full blown action movies with excessive body counts. Finally this series slows down and focuses on a smaller group of characters. Really interesting exploration of Jedi relationships. The Nihil are amazing villains. The Drengir and the Blight are both intriguing concepts. A slower story than previous entries but a welcome break. Feels like a lot of set up with no end pay off within this book though.
Mark Thompsons narration and voice acting is quintessential Star Wars for me now.

A love story between two Jedi … told in a weird way

It felt like romantic novel with moments when Eivar wanted to give Elzar “a taste of her that no one had”… incredibly this was acceptable for a Jedi master and for this book. But hey she’s listening to the song of the force and this is ok…
Yes, Star Wars is a universe but this romantic awkward tensions are not for me.
I wish the book was more about Marchion Ro. But romantic tensions between Eivar and Elzar, how close they come to having a close relationship and how she is enjoying the tension ride justifying it by her interpretation of the song of the force… yuk… the whole chapter is about their kiss and how they confess love for each other… oh no…. The narrators voice acting, using an accent to portray a woman… for me it’s weird.
And yes, they did it.
Ultimately it is about a woman selecting the most macho man around, going through emotions and then … completing the ride.

A bit too overcrowded

we're pretty far into the High Republic now but the story group have largely kept major characters in their own lanes through the comics, manga, YA, Junior and adult novels all focusing on a sub set of the characters. This book seems to have just mashed them all together and we get very little time with any of them with the overall story seeming to move on very little.

Still it was an enjoyable listen and hardly a chore, but I have to acknowledge that this far in THR any release could be utter rubbish and I'd still buy the next in the series anyway.

This series feels like it’s curdling

I don’t like the narration, his inflection, or cadence.

I feel each adult-novel in the series has declined after every instalment.

The story had momentum but now it’s levelling out and just not as interesting. I was hooked and now I’m bored.
