Summary
What if the stars collided?
If you love space opera with twists, you'll instantly love Starcrasher and the Shades Space Opera series.
Tredd Bounty is a navy reject turned bounty hunter, living in the grimy world of Spit City on orbit around gas giant Heeg. When he is given the chance to take on a dangerous yet lucrative mission to find and capture the mysterious Starcrasher device, rumored to have the power to move the stars themselves, it seems like his luck is about to turn.
He gathers a motley crew: an ex-navy pilot suffering from random black-outs; a Jindalar groupie hiding a shocking secret; a strapping Andron mechanic unable to step foot on any planet; and an eccentric doctor. Together, they take their battered Rutger-class cargo ship on a journey to uncharted star systems, luxurious space stations, and, against all odds, up against the unyielding Dawn Alliance Navy.
But Tredd is hiding a superhuman secret: the ability to stop time. It is both a blessing that has kept him alive through many a suicide mission, and a curse that has dragged him down. As he travels across the universe, he finds that he can no longer ignore his past and must face his lost childhood sweetheart and the men who betrayed him years ago.
As he begins to close in on the Starcrasher, so do other darker forces. Tredd realizes he's not the only one with a dark secret and that the mythical gods, the Shades, might just be more than just the bedtime story he heard as a child.
Starcrasher is an exhilarating adventure, moving faster than the speed of light through an original universe that combines the technological wonders of the sci-fi genre with urban fantasy. If you loved Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy, the Space Quest video game series, and the Firefly TV series, you'll love Starcrasher and the Shades Space Opera series.

Epic Space Opera draws you in and holds you!
This is an epic space opera exactly as you would expect from the genre, it has a vast setting of worlds. The main characters are well crafted providing genuine feel to them, I believe everyone will find a character to identify with or just plain adore for the individual traits. As they develop you learn more about them and find yourself idolising some and vilifying others rightly or wrongly in some cases.
The story is quick to get going keeping you mesmerised throughout, it seamlessly shifts focus and it is so organic that you barely notice the change in direction. There are some great twists that you deserve to find yourself and not have spoilt by me.
This is an epic book that quickly throws open its focus to more of this universe giving it a grand feeling and the book perfectly ends with a set up for the next in the series which I am eagerly anticipating.
The narration is absolutely spot on, I love the addition of accents for characters that give the characters a more realistic feeling almost perfectly matching their background as you know it (especially as a brit). The characters feel individual and unique, you always know who is speaking.
In summation this book is a grand Space Opera that I truly hope continues. It will suit anyone that enjoys a space opera, equally if you like a fantasy science fiction mix you will enjoy it as well. If you like a bit of military science fiction it works as well.
This is one book that is definitely worth picking up and thoroughly enjoying.

Would highly recommend!!!!!
Any additional comments?
I noticed that the other reviews are quite negative about this book. Well let me tell you, I thought it was great, I did not have the problems they had.
I have to first say that I have not read/listened to any of this authors books and I have not listened to this narrator before, so all this is new to me.
I will also have to admit that I did find it slow going to begin with but I realised as the story progressed that we needed it so we can understand why things happen later on, as well as getting to know the characters a bit better.
As the story progresses it gets better and more intriguing, there is a lot of twist and turns that I did not see coming and I thought the plot was well thought threw, for it flowed and things where interlinked with each other.
One reviewer found it confusing, which I did not, I thought things are well explained and sounded realistic. Is this because I like SciFi and I have read/listened to so many, I don't know but I had no problems with understanding what they were talking about.
This would appeal to people who love SciFi, with a little of everything else like romance, action/adventure and fantasy thrown in. But I would still classify this as a SciFi.
The other negative reviews was about the narrator. He does have a british accent, but I had no problem understanding him. He also voiced all the characters out so I knew who was saying what without being told and he also voiced their personality. I thought he did a great job with the amount of characters he had to voice and I don't mind listening to his other works.
I would highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to book two!
There is some violence and profanity (sporadic). There is no sexual content except for a few reference, everything else happens behind closed doors.

An unusual But Convoluted and Entertaining Story
Although a bit slow to start and sometimes a little obvious this story does flow along some recognised routes.
The main characters especially Bounty and Eno are very likeable and they help the listeners interest a lot.
Narration from Nick is quite good and although a lot of the characters sound a little too simliar for my liking i wouldn't be put off any future endeavours of his.
The best bit is from about 3/4 through and onwards as the tension, twists and action heats up and comes together a lot better.
This i think makes up for the average start so stick with it as in the end it's rewarding.
Overall a 4 star but i think the 2nd in the series would shine better as we have such a good ending and more familiarity with the characters and the writers style keeping your attention.

Dissapointing
What would have made Starcrasher better?
Possibly a better narrator. Not a professional performance at all. The story was ok, but not brilliant.
Would you be willing to try another book from Rock Forsberg? Why or why not?
Not sure
Would you be willing to try another one of Nick Howden-Steenstra’s performances?
No
