About this listen

Blandings Castle is bathed in mellow sunlight, but for some of its inhabitants the storm clouds are forming.

Ronnie Fish desperately needs a plan of action. Engaged to delightful chorus girl Sue Brown, Ronnie must persuade his uncle (and trustee) Lord Emsworth to hand over a large chunk of capital before they can marry. Meanwhile waspish Lady Constance Keeble is marshalling her forces to stop her brother Galahad causing panic among the aristocracy by publishing the tale of his misspent youth.

Between them, they stir up mischief and mayhem involving the sensational theft of a prize-winning pig, a conscience-stricken butler and a scheming sleuth, and on-again, off-again love affairs.

Once again it all proves too much for the Efficient Baxter.

Something light and amusing bought to life.

Delightful story with wonderful characters and beautifully narrated.
The days of the English aristocracy portrayed with great humour.

A real treat

PGW at his very best, and no one can do it justice like John Wells. Highly recommended.

John Wells is brilliant

Great book and John Wells is simply perfect. I wish they would release more of the blandings books narrated.

Haven't laughed this much in ten years!

It took a chapter or so before I got used to the narrator, but once I did I very much enjoyed his interpretation of the characters! Along with Wodehouse's sparkling wit it was really the best read I've had in many years. "It was probably the pig that started it." 😂

Best of all the Blandings stories

So beautifully performed by John Wells, this is the very best of Wodehouse in my view. I really did laugh out loud. Positively spiffing!

Thoroughly enjoyed - volume a little too quiet

Enjoyed the book and performance very much but found it too quiet to listen to while doing other things

A marvellous performance of a comic classic

Each character brilliantly delineated by John Wells, not one comic beat missed. A tour de force.

Vintage Wodehouse

Wodehouse's writing sometimes reminds me of a cappuccino. Underneath the froth of hysterical plot lines and playfully exaggerated characters lies a stiff shot of serious expresso. And in Summer Lightning there is real pathos and emotional depth. Brilliantly read by Wells, the characters come to life in 3-D, despite their stereotypical origins.

Great story

The usual funny convoluted brilliant story. Personally I didn’t like the narrator - too many silly voices.

A jolly romp

A typical P G Wodehouse farce, beautifully voiced by the narrator. Good cheerful company for a lazy afternoon.
