Why is there so much inequality?

Using personal stories and famous myths - from Oedipus and Faust to Frankenstein and The Matrix - he explains what the economy is and why it has the power to shape our lives.
Intimate yet universally accessible, Talking to My Daughter About the Economy introduces listeners to the most important drama of our times, helping to make sense of a troubling world while inspiring us to make it a better one.

Articulate and thought provoking
Brilliantly narrated to reflect a brilliant and extremely intelligent author explaining aspects of economics in a far more understandable manner than traditional books on economics and finance.

Unexpectedly excellent
This book was completely different to what I expected when I bought it. It paints the picture of the economy in an exceptionally simple yet thorough way. The method of writing as if to a child is very well executed and works wonderfully.

A brilliant description of how the world works, in language anyone can understand
This has been one of the most riveting and illuminating books I have ever listened to. Varoufakis elegantly explores the functioning of markets, inequality, religion and democracy, using stories anyone could relate to, and poses some fundamental questions for each of us to answer.

Nice place to start
To be honest I’m never going to fully understand the vast majority of economics, however, I found this a great place to start and a useful way to view the subject matter in a way I never envisioned until it was pointed out. In all very happy with the topics and descriptions in the book aimed at the beginner.

Excellent introduction to basic economics
This is an excellent introduction to basic economics, somewhat set apart from other books on the subject, by its references to Greek myths and philosophers. A very enjoyable listen, extremely well read by Leighton Pugh.
One word of warning, the authors views are somewhat to the left of the spectrum, so if you are an investment banker or work in private equity, some of the views expressed may not be to your liking.
As for me, I am now going to buy an example for all the teenagers around me.

Excellent
A perfect pithy, entertaining overview of economics in the modern world, and why you shouldn't fall for the weasel words of the high priests of economic theory. Accessible to everyone. Compulsory listening.

Incisive, engaging and informative
What an amazing book. Really beautifully written in an easy narrative, mind opening and totally relevant. The dialogue with his daughter tackles all those issues why so many people not just youth think neither economics nor the destruction of their own environment is their problem. Masterful. Should be put in the reading list of every school.
