Summary
Thirty-two seconds. That's how long it took for Delon Sanchez's life to end. One minute he was the best bronc rider in the Panhandle, and the next he was nothing. Knee shattered, future in question, all he can do is pull together the pieces...and wonder what cruel trick of fate has thrown him into the path of his ex, the oh-so-perfect Tori Patterson.
Tori's come home after her husband's death, intent on escaping the public eye. It's just her luck that Delon limps into her physical therapy office, desperate for help. All hard-packed muscle and dark-eyed temptation, he's never been anything but a bad idea. And yet, seeing him again, Tori can't remember what made her choose foolish pride over love...or why, with this second, final chance to right old wrongs, the smartest choice would be to run from this gorgeous rodeo boy as fast as her boots can take her.

Sassy Women Tame Testosterone In Texas!
I loved the portrayal of the strong, sassy, female roles - whose fearless, ‘go get em’ attitudes ( whether at home or in the rodeo arena) had me in awe and taking notes…Lol!
Their shared banter was hilarious (especially to this reader/listener, for whom the ‘Texan’ and ‘Rodeo’ allusions and metaphors proved refreshingly fascinating and new!
The male ‘leads’ were expertly drawn - distinct ‘quirky’ characters with their individual strengths and flaws ( but, at heart, good men with the soundest of intentions…)!
Perhaps, my favourite was the small boy - he was a total delight and so ‘real’ that I suspected the author must, surely, have had just such a child in mind for his character! His cheeky and knowing ability to catch his parents off-guard, along with his irrepressible determination to be both ‘heard and seen’ at all times, had me in stitches - and wishing he were a member of my own family, Lol!
The female narrator has done a fabulous job in bringing all these characters ( male, female, young and elderly) to life! Each ‘voice’ was entirely recognisable and believable - whilst her own was very ‘easy on the ear!’
My only difficulty, re. this book, proved to be my ‘British’ squeamishness as I listened to the graphic descriptions of rodeo riders ‘raking their spurs’ down the sides and into the flesh of the horses and cows - horrific! Of course, I’d selected to listen to this title ( and the whole series), because I love this author’s work) but haven’t, so far, been able to put aside my disbelief that such animal cruelty is still permitted ( and applauded), for ‘entertainment’ and money, within the 21st. Century USA!
Nonetheless, another great story from this esteemed author - and brilliant narration to complement it! Thanks, both of you!
