Short and sweet sci-fi romcom!
Betsy feels sorry for the tiny green-skinned man she finds locked in a laboratory. When she frees him, he grows to full size and she can’t predict the whirlwind of keeping his secret and losing her heart to him. Screenwriter and producer Harriet Frank Jr wrote this pleasant 72-page novella and it was published in Amazing Stories in 1953. The story is a sci-fi romcom and, being a product of its time, it has a simple, almost naive, chaste quality. Betsy is good-hearted and thoughtful, someone who solves her problems through talking it out. The comedy is also a product of its time, there are no jokes or one-liners, rather it’s in the odd situation Betsy finds herself in. I suspect that older readers and those who prefer clean romance will enjoy this the most. Anyone looking for action or passion will not. Audio narrator, Trista Harter, matches the book’s tone and Betsy’s character well.
