Disappointing story & technical faults

I had a bad feeling when the opening credits announced that this was book 50 in the series, that generally means that they are formulaic and written in a rush.
There is a lot of scene setting before the real story begins, which I found quite frustrating, for me the prologue also gave away who abducted Art Adams.
I found the central character, Emily, to be completely unlikeable, she jumped to generally wrong conclusions, broke the law and then complained when she was caught, she withheld Information from the police that could have helped them and she lied to her husband, overall not someone I would like to meet.
I also found it strange that the family involved constantly claimed that the police were useless, when I couldn't see how they were at fault.
there were also technical errors with the book, in Chapter 19 the sound dropped out lots of times, making it very difficult to understand what was happening. Far worse was that chapter 42, which I believe included important parts of the plot where the kidnapper was identified was replaced by a repeat of an earlier chapter.
Because of all these issues I can't award any more than 2 stars, and the second star is only there because the final showdown was quite exciting.
