Summary
This is a story from The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, Volume I collection.
These six cases are among the last undertaken by Sherlock Holmes before he retired to the Sussex downs. However, the problems facing the sleuth are as diverse and challenging as ever. What with seeking the whereabouts of the stolen Mazarin Diamond, discovering the importance of being called Garrideb, encountering a mysterious murder on Thor Bridge, searching for eternal youth and the threat of a vampire in Sussex, there is no sign of Holmes' deductive powers slowing down.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s "The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier", originally published in The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, is one of only two stories in which the intrepid detective narrates his own tale of derring-do - the other 54 stories being, of course, transcribed by Holmes’ sidekick and de facto biographer, Dr. John Watson. In "Blanched Soldier", Holmes investigates the disappearance and subsequent ghostly apparition of a soldier recently returned from the Second Boer War.
David Timson’s narration is, as always, deeply enjoyable, his sense of pace and tension impeccable. Timson is especially adept at accentuating the diverse personalities of Doyle’s characters with his flexible vocal skills.
