Summary

A no-holds-barred, tough-love guide to dealing with your emotional issues and changing your mindset in order to finally lose weight, from the creator of weight loss reality TV, including The Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss.

Every fat person (yes, "fat person" - there'll be no sugarcoating here) knows that you need to move more and eat less to shed pounds. Not exactly rocket science. Yet that simple formula doesn't get to the root of what makes someone top out at 500 pounds, or sometimes just carry an extra 50. The missing link in transformative weight loss is mental and emotional fortitude. Mining the same problem-solving and motivational skills JD Roth has used so successfully with reality show contestants, The Big Fat Truth gets listeners to address the real reasons they're overweight (and nobody gets away with saying it's because they love food).

With his combination of enthusiasm, empathy, no-holds-barred style, and master story-telling abilities, JD helps them unearth and tackle the unresolved issues they've buried under the French fries and chocolate chip cookie.

Great Inspiration For Better Health & Fitness

I enjoyed this as J.D shows us behind the curtains as to how fitness shows work, the selection processes, motivational tactics used, etc. Now I don't agree with all his approaches and certain questions he asks contestants but interesting to read. Overall though, sharing great nuggets of health and fitness advice mingled with inspirational stories makes this a worthwhile listen for anyone looking to start on their journey to better health and fitness.

The science of tv-shows

A problem that extreme amounts of processed carbs created, should be solved by.... Avoiding fatty sauces and exercising to the extreme?!

This mantra is repeated again and again: The fatty sauces.
In this book, counting burning calories is all that matters, no matter if the burning is from lean mass or fat. No mention of inner body workings, hunger hormones or what made us fat technically. And it is clearly stated by the author, he's not a scientist.

I understand that all is for tv. It is nothing fun in watching people lose weight effortlessly by just dropping the carbs and living a normal life.

Extra credit for the performance, also some interesting takes on grit and can- vs. can't people.

nothing new

I can't say I learned any secrets to weight loss. Much of it seemed to be about praising his weight loss tv shows. An easy listen though. If you like programmes like the biggest loser you will probably like this book.
