I know her secret….

Cat is in so much trouble. She did something bad, and I saw.

I’ll keep her secret...for a price.

Poor, sweet, timid Cat should never have come to Kingmakers. It’s a place for monsters and killers. People like me.

She wandered into the lion’s den and now she’s mine.

Mine to play with. Mine to torment. Mine to break....

The Lark Notes:

My very first inspiration for Kingmakers was Dean Yenin. I wanted to write a true antihero who would need to undergo a very serious change in his character to complete his redemption arc. Dean will make you feel all the things, sometimes against your will. You’ll love him and hate him and love him again, and never get him out of your head.—Sophie

The Bully is a stand-alone novel. It's the third installment in the epic dark mafia Kingmakers series—a bully romance, full of dark, twisted enemies-to-lovers conflict. Listener beware, this one is intense.

Cat & Dean - Great Listen!

The Bully is Book 3 in the Kingmakers Series

Although this book is a standalone - I would not recommend reading it without having read the first two books. There is so much introduction of Dean and Cat as side characters with really important background information. Having an understanding of their relationship and how Kingmakers has worked only helps provide a more enjoyable read and readers to really appreciate the character growth and redemption on a deeper level.

Cat and Dean were both intriguing characters in the previous book and although they were side characters they really played such a huge role in my opinion. Cat is fierce and a very strong heroine with secrets and one who makes choices to protect those she loves. I wasn't so sure about how I would feel about Dean or what to really expect from him but I was shocked and I so enjoyed his character and all the build-up and redemption! Cat and Dean are opposites who shouldn't work but they had some amazing chemistry and brought out the best in each other. This story flowed perfectly and gives a little more steam than the previous books. A great addition to the Kingmakers, a series that has been very entertaining.

Narrated by Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake - I really enjoyed all the narrators and their wonderful voices. They could really bring out the emotions in the characters, drawing me into the story.

Keep this series coming! Amazing story!

This series just keeps getting better! While each book stands alone, the stories build on each other, the characters are involved in each story and the weaving of families is amazing. This book features Dean and Cat. Both characters we got to know in previous books, but now we get to focus on them. Cat left school last year with a secret that could be the end of her. No one knows it. Except one person. Dean is using what he knows to control Cat. Her life is literally in his hands, but what this flawed young adult finds out what life is truly about with her. Cat is incredibly strong. Her spirit never breaks and she sees something in Dean no one else does. Dean struggles, but we see him grow and change. Lark has created a world in Kingmakers that is so well thought out, giving us a look at the next generation taking over the families and how they all intermingle and get along. She keeps the suspense high, and the twists and turns coming. I love how these books are unfolding and cannot wait to hear the next book!

Creating this world, Gregory Salinas and Lily Drake keep us entertained as Dean and Cat. Salinas has a way with his voice that is smooth, yet he holds that edge of danger as Dean. Drake keeps Cat strong and a force to be reckoned with. I enjoy how these two perform together, keeping the voices consistent and perfectly fitting the situations. Antonio Turner pops in a couple of times as the spy, and adds an air of mystery. I can't wait to see where he is taking us next! Bring it on!

It gets better

This is the third book of the series and it follows Dean & Cat. When Dean finds out Cats secret he uses it to blackmail her and make her bend to his will . At the start Dean was a complete ass but Cat softened him and he’s quite likeable now.

Couldn't rate lower than 6

6 Stars. This. Was. Incredible. Full disclosure this is the first book I've read in this series, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything. This completely hooked me in from page one and not only did I fall completely in love with Dean but Cat...strong, special, wonderful Cat. The relationship dynamic had me sucked in as well as the secrets and cliques. I'm obsessed about finding out who The Spy is, I want to read every little thing this author has wrote until it comes out and I officially have a new obsession. So thanks for that I guess.

Beautiful story

Book 3 of the Kingmakers story had been building since we first got Dean's POV in The Heir when he was the anatgonist between Anna and his personal rival, his cousin Leo Gallo. His estranged Aunt Yelena's son. I guess given how much I absolutely LOVED Heavy Crown, and the slow build up, I was expecting there to be more drama around the Kat Romero and Dean relationship... that being said, it was HOT.

No one suspected that sweet little sister Kat Romero was responsible for luring Rocco Prince to his death last year, no one except Dean Yenin who saw her returning to the medical room after her altercation with Rocco. He is the only one who could tell the Chancellor that she lied about her alibi, and he's using it to blackmail her into becoming his personal slave, enjoying the control he has over the life he has so literally in his hands. The faculty would kill her if they found out. Eventually what started under duress is now something they both crave, and they begin dating for real. Dean does give the Draco Malfoy vibes without the privilege and wands. I suppose Dean's redemption arc was much simpler now that his father is no longer an influence to stop him from reaching out to his aunt, and building ties with cousin Leo. I think I'd hoped for more of the drama we saw in The Heir but this was a good healing arc for Dean, just hope Lola gets her's in the next book.

Narration was brilliant.

Brilliant

Sophie Lark I love your writing, you made me fall in love with the Mafia trope. You have written so many books and your storyline is always new and surprising and I love how all the characters intertwine.

I am so happy and excited that the rest of the books in the series is available in audio so I am binge listening.

The narration is brilliant, the narrators brings the story to live it’s like watching a movie I can see the story play out in front of me.

Captivating Redemption

The Bully, the third book in the Kingmakers series, met my highest expectation. After all, it's Dean Yenin's story. I'm in awe of Sophie Lark and how she managed to redeem such an antagonistic and controversial character like Dean. She did a phenomenal job making him both appealing and relatable. After reading the story, I got to say that he's got that something-something we ladies like so much. I couldn't get enough of him. Dean and Cat Romero's story was simply riveting. Dean has a dark, disciplined, controlling, and dominating persona, making him irresistible. Cat is a beautiful, unassuming, and shy girl in servitude to Dean.

Aside from the drama, excitement, and scorching hot steam, the story is unpredictable and filled with emotional ups and downs. The physical chemistry was astonishingly powerful, fueled by passion and hate. The relationship started as a Dom/Sub agreement, developing into so much more. Dean and Cat transformed, becoming perfect for one another. Dean influenced and encouraged Cat to come out of her shell, becoming a stronger and more confident version of herself. Cat smoothed out the sharp edges of emotional discontent and paved the way to his redemption. Though Dean remains true to who he has always been. I generously enjoyed getting to know Dean better. It is understandable why he is the way he is, and it's all due to the lack of a positive role model in his life.

Superb narration by Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake. They each flawlessly captured the nuances of the characters' personalities and complicated emotions. They breathe life into this complex storyline making it even more engaging. The Bully is a must-listen, a dark journey that I highly recommend.

My Thoughts on The Bully

This enemies to lovers, bully, dark romance was even better than I’d hoped at the end of The Rebel. Dean had been such a dark, tortured character so far through the series that I didn’t know how Sophie Lark could possibly redeem him. After his actions in The Heir and the fact that he is blackmailing Cat at the start of this one, I was nervous (but in a good, excited way) to see how things would evolve from there. And evolve they did. Not instantly or too quickly either. It was a slow steady progression throughout the book. And I loved the grovel. It was well deserved and utter perfection. As was the narration.

I loved all three narrators. Antonio Turner was a brand-new voice for me. He was good though and I hope to hear more from him in future. Gregory Salinas and Lilly Drake, however, are voices I’ve heard before and enjoyed them then and now.
