About this listen

Some places you won't find on any maps. Others, are only on maps . . .

Nell Young hasn't spoken to her father, the world-respected cartographer Dr. Daniel Young, in years—but this morning he was found dead in his office at the New York Public Library.

When they last met, Dr Young fired Nell after an argument over a seemingly worthless mass-produced highway map. Now every copy of this map is being found and destroyed . . .

To find out why, Nell will embark on a dangerous journey into the heart of a conspiracy beyond belief, discovering her family's darkest secrets and the true power that lies in maps . . .

silly

I just couldn't get on board with the motivations of any of the characters, the results of which made for a silly plot.

Badly written

So, the concept is really interesting. But the writing is so so so bad! Like I can’t even finish it terrible bad! I don’t know how this got published. I’m not a snob I like chocolate I like adventures and I really like Mabs so I should’ve been the prime target for a book like this which is probably how I ended up purchasing it. But I can’t even finish it I feel like I’m getting dumber just by listening. Very sad because again the possibilities were great if someone were a better writer.

Really good premise, terrible ending

Most of the narrators are good solid and deliver decent performances. One is OTT but isn't in it much thankfully.

The story itself has a really good set-up, super interesting core premise and the mystery/developments in the first 2/3rds is coherent and super intriguing.

Unfortunately, the book can't deliver on its setup and the back third falls apart, it becomes clear that the historical actions causing the drama are just kind of stupid decisions and the final resolution is essentially just the wave of a magic wand and suddenly everything is resolved and the bad people are punished and the good people are rewarded.
