Summary

Ellen Curtis runs her own business helping people who are running out of space. As a declutterer, she is used to encountering all sorts of weird and wonderful objects in the course of her work. What she has never before encountered is a dead body.

When Ellen stumbles across the body of a young woman in an over-cluttered flat, suspicion immediately falls on the deceased homeowner's son. No doubt Nate Ogden is guilty of many things - but is he really the killer?

Discovering a link between the victim and her own past, Ellen sets out to uncover the truth. But where has her best friend disappeared to? And is Ellen really prepared for the shocking revelations to follow?

And end to end listen

One of those you can’t put down. Well plotted, lovely characters and satisfying.
Not one for the tourist board of Portsmouth though!

An Unusual Cleaning Job

I've listened to all Simon Brett's 'Feathering' mysteries so I decided to give this a go...and i'm glad I did. An unusual blend of murder mystery, world building for later books no doubt, stories of loss and mental ill health. A gentle start to the series with an excellent double reveal!

quirky tale

i liked that the stories are murder mystery but woven with mental health observations, decluttering is novel idea to use as a base. loved it.

A Taste of things to come?

Having become totally addicted the Feathering Mysteries I approached this first offering in Simon Brett’s ‘new series’ The Clutter Corpse with a degree of trepidation…would it live up to my expectations and if more books were to follow would I become equally addicted ..well if this is a taste of things to come I needn’t have worried.
Just the right amount of twists and turns with characters that are believable and have the potential to be further fleshed out in future outings.
The writing is crisp and concise and the narration is as always first class .
I can throughly recommend it.

More, please.

I have read a few of Simon Brett’s novels previously and enjoyed the Charles Paris dramatisations on R4, but never listened to an audio book narrated by him. At first I was a little thrown by the male voice giving first person narrative to the female protagonist but it’s a tribute to both the compelling storyline and Mr Brett’s wonderful performance that the jarring note very quickly faded and by the end the Narrator’s voice in my head was positively that of this marvellous and totally admirable new character. I haven’t enjoyed an audio book so much in years! I hope this decluttering series continues. I need to know how Ben navigates his next few years, whether Dodge ever gets to look Space woman in the eye and how she continues to build her life back. I am already close to being addicted.

Easy listening great plot

I listened to this during lockdown and Simon Brett’s natural delivery made it sound like a friend telling me about it. I could see this as a play or tv drama and if you like Cynthia Harrod Eagles Bill Slider books you’ll enjoy the clever and mildly witty central character . A good listen .

How the ordinary developed into the extraordinary happenings.

I certainly couldn't stop listening, suspense to the very end. Every chapter seem to hold a cliff hanger conclusion!

I liked it

I think the characters could grow on me. I still like Mrs Pargeter. I wish we could have the rest of the books. Also I like the Fethering stories but I've heard all those.
