About this listen

Book one of the Dream Traveler Series.

Girvyn is unaware he possesses a unique gift: he can enter people's dreams, identifying him as a Dream Traveler. Girvyn aspires to follow in his uncle’s scholarly footsteps. Yet, his future veers off course when a dream entangles his fate with a forest tribe ravaged by demons, led by the rogue Traveler, Crane. Crane has long schemed to merge his nightmarish realm with the Waking world, a plan exposed by a lone survivor's harrowing tale. Crane's vulnerability lies in his physical form; destroying it would disperse his demonic legions. While some advocate for a global military alliance against him, others see hope in young Girvyn, who controls a mysterious and deadly gateway. However, uncle Laglen fears Girvyn is not prepared for such a grave role.

Girvyn must master his emerging abilities to navigate a destiny that binds him to an epic struggle between dreams and reality. With the world teetering on collapse, can Queen Amelia of Rathnell and her sworn protector, Elaya Faith, persuade other nations to join forces to assault Crane’s northern fortress, or will the fate of the waking world rest on the shoulders of a young scholar?

Excellent

An original concept beautifully written with intelligence, humour and connection. I really bonded with the characters and I cared about them. This book had a bit of everything for me. Intriguing and surprising. It gave me warm smiles and gasp out loud moments. I am looking forward to book 2.

A gripping story read with great enthusiasm!!!

From the opening chapter I was gripped. There is no time wasted in introducing conflict and concepts, but it is done with a smoothness and ease so that at no point does the reader feel overwhelmed. I was thoroughly engaged with the concept of the dream realm, its potential and repercussions.

What elevates this book from just another run-of-the-mill fantasy is not just the story, but the richness and depth of the world building and characters. Too many times there is a central character, with a small supporting cast and then all the extras. Where Dark Rising is so much better is that the supporting cast IS the main cast. They are there for a reason, individually defined and they contribute, and this all adds to the realism of the world created. Even the ‘extras’ feel a part of the main cast. Outside of the ‘good vs evil’ story the additional world building of warring kingdoms, individual rivalries and additional subplots, elevates this book to another level.

To call Peter Kenny ‘The Narrator’ would be an understatement. He gives a performance with such enthusiasm, bringing the characters, story and world, to life. An amazing job that gets you absorbed into the rollercoaster ride from the beginning, that, by the end of it, you will believe the characters and the cities are real.

For a debut novel, John Nassari has, without a doubt, hit the ground running. This is a fantastic book and a must read for everyone who is a fan of the fantasy genre. I look forward to more from this series.

Gripping, amazing world and story development. It’s like The Matrix mixed with Star Wars and Game of Thrones.

A truly captivating fantasy novel that delivers on every front. It seamlessly blends the mind-bending possibilities of The Matrix and the depth of world-building you’d expect from The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. From the very first chapter, it hooks you with a fast-paced, imaginative plot that never loses momentum.

What sets The Dream Traveller apart from other fantasy novels is how it weaves deeper themes into its action-packed plot. Beyond the battles, magic, and political intrigue, the story touches on questions of ethics, responsibility, and the dangers of unchecked power. These themes feel timely and thought-provoking, adding another layer of meaning to an already gripping story.

If you're a fan of fantasy with a twist, this is a must-read. It's imaginative, fast-paced, and full of surprises, with an ending that will leave you eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. Highly recommended!

Blown away

I don’t usually read fantasy, so it’s taking me a while to read Dark Rising, but I’ve been so blown away by how the intricate world and epic story have unfolded. How do authors manage to dream up and articulate such rich detail?! I strongly suspect this might just be the book that finally makes me a fantasy-loving convert! Incredible to think this is John Nassari’s first book. What a stunning debut, amazing.

Exciting, thought provoking, quirky adventure

I was lent the book for a day and was hooked so I bought the paperback to finish the story but couldn’t wait so downloaded the Kindle and loved it. Now I’m enjoying it again with Audible and Peter Kenny, the narrator of The Witcher, has brought another layer of character portrayal, drama, existential exploration and humour to this deeply imaginative story. All I need is the T shirt and Book 2 while I wait for the film. I’ve learned you’re never too old to be a groupie! Bring it on, Nassari!
