About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The electrifying follow-up to Dave Eggers' New York Times best seller The Circle.

When the world's largest search engine/social media company merges with the planet's dominant e-commerce site, it creates the richest and most dangerous - and, oddly enough, most beloved - monopoly ever known: The Every.

Delaney Wells is an unlikely new hire. A former forest ranger and unwavering tech skeptic, she charms her way into an entry-level job with one goal in mind: to take down the company from within. With her compatriot, the not-at-all-ambitious Wes Kavakian, they look for the company's weaknesses, hoping to free humanity from all-encompassing surveillance and the emoji-driven infantilisation of the species. But does anyone want what Delaney is fighting to save? Does humanity truly want to be free?

Studded with unforgettable characters and lacerating set pieces, The Every blends satire and terror while keeping the listener in breathless suspense about the fate of the company - and the human animal.

Brilliant if scary

Brilliant book that was entertainingly read. It all seems scarily possible. A must read for anyone interested in how technology is changing our behaviour.

Great reading, wonderful drama.

Great book, wonderful narration. I didn't want this to end and glad I opted for audible (had to say that in case The Every is listening in)

Very clever and relevant

Apart from a bit too much plot stuff at times, i thought This was this was a brilliant exposure of the madness of social media and data driven human behaviour. A very entertaining and timely warning about the way we really are going right now.

Very well and entertainingly read

An intriguing story about our life now and in a possible near future. Both hilarious and alarming. Very well performed

incredibly clever, amusing and alarming in turn

Eggers has a genius for encapsulating human frailty and vulnerability and manages to stand far enough back from the modern world to see it for what it's just about to become. I've never read such a clever, absorbing, and highly likely vision of near-dystopia. It should be required reading for all high schoolers and law makers!

Good story but irritating narration is distracting

I don't know if it's the narrator's style or if he's been asked to do it. But I found the way speech is reported bizarre, and it became a consistent and frequent irritant.

e.g. "blah blah blah", Delaney...... SAID.

The story is pretty good, perhaps not as good as the first. But certainly some interesting ideas.

beware!

The Circle was great. This is even better. Watch as is all comes true! So thought provoking, it is quite unsettling. Seeing technology filter into our lives, it won't be long before we see many of these fictional ideas running our lives.

Terrifying

The most terrifying thing about this book is not that it all makes so much sense and is utterly believable, but in the moments when you find yourself agreeing with some of the ideas here, and thinking - actually, that does make sense!! It’s gripping and leaves you in a state of confusion as to where you stand, and it made me laugh, though the laughing hurt!

Great but female voices weird

The story is great and the narrator has a great voice and reading style, but for some reason gave all the female characters a strange simpering voice which was quite hard to listen to.

A fun but faintly chilling read

The descriptions of a familiar near future maintains the illusion of reality throughout. These moments made me laugh but then a feeling of unease followed when I wondered how close we are to this reality.
