About this listen
December 1669. During one of the coldest winters in living memory, the Thames freezes over, and a frost fair is held on the thick ice. Architect Christopher Redmayne and puritanical constable Jonathan Bale are both visiting the fair when one of Bale's sons gets into trouble on the ice. They rescue the boy but in the process make a grim discovery - a frozen corpse....

review
kept me engaged from beginning to end. Great listen, narration and storyline. Just concentrated on the plot and not the politics of the time.

This is a great historical mystery
Kept me going right until the end - much better than many of the audiobooks I’ve paid for. It’s superb considering it’s free. Narrator is great and has a good range and the world building is also very good. Perfect at Christmas time.

Passed the time nicely
Not to taxing and a little to cosy for me. Interesting bits of history and it was in the Audible a plus catalog so what’s not to like. Well narrated.

A pleasant enough romp
Not earth shattering but happy enough to spend a few hours of an annoying convalescence listening to it. I think this was probably the second or third of this particular series that I’ve listened to and I will look out for another if I’m laid up again in the near future. Good narration though.

Great medieval yarn
A great story, set with a lot of historical fact intrigue and a very good plot I look forward to reading another in the series!

Passed the time
Good/ average story, quite good period detail, fairly obvious twists & turns (although the denouement - is that how you spell it? - was more complicated than the rest of the book had promised). Minus marks for slightly off-putting narration: not the worst mouth noises of any narrator, but too many dry-tongued rasps to make for entirely comfortable listening. Was pleased to have the sewing machine going so I could hear the words but the extraneous noises were blocked out a bit! Definitely passed the time, but wasn't riveting.

50% mystery 50% Romance
The actual mystery could have been solved in a third of the book. The majority of the book seems to go over how every woman in London wants to marry the main character. Would have preferred more mystery and less fluff.
