Summary
'A beautifully written cat's-eye view of some 120 years of history. Prepare to be enchanted.'
SIMON BRETT, author of the Mrs Pargeter series
Early morning, 1902. At 7/7 Marchmont Crescent, Eilidh the charlady tips coal into a fire grate and sets it alight. Overhearing, Grimalkin the cat ambles over to curl up against the welcome heat and lick his favourite human's
hand. But this is to be his last day on earth ... before he becomes the Ghost Cat.
Follow Grimalkin as he witnesses the changes of the next 120 years, prowling unseen among the inhabitants of an Edinburgh tenement, while unearthing some startling revelations about the mystery of existence, the unstoppable march of time and the true meaning of feline companionship.
This unique tale provides a feel-good read full of charm for any fan of history, humour and fur-ridden fun. Perfect for fans of Matt Haig's How to Stop Time and V. E. Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
'The Ghost Cat is an Edinburgh delight: "mizzle-ridden" days were made for books like this!'
LUCY RIBCHESTER, author of The Hourglass Factory

Lovely wee Edinburgh based story
Was a lovely read, characters and things through time were great. I loved hearing the story told through the eyes of a cat and the last haunting was the author. Very clever

Delightful
A sweet, witty dance through time in the company of the titular cat, that observes, critiques and marvels at the world and its capacity to change and yet, in some ways, also remain the same.

So fun and interesting!
I’ve learned so much about the history of Edinburgh that I didn’t know. I love cats so was drawn to the title. Having lived around Marchmont as a student I was tickled to learn about how things could have looked there in the 1800’s. Scottish accents weren’t amazing, but I was able to live with it. What a fun and interesting book!

Dull story, awful narration
I got this on audible and was really looking forward to it as I do like stories with animals as the protagonists such as A Dog's Purpose, Saying Goodbye to Tuesday and The Travelling Cat Chronicles, for example. However, I couldn't listen to the narrator. Firstly the over enunciated way he read the honestly dull narrative left me wondering if this was actually a children's story but the killer was his atrocious Irish and American accents in the second of the cat's lives. I'd just about tolerated his god awful Scottish accent up to that point. Please can we do away with narrator's attempting accents unless they are Jodie Comer because it really ruins the listening pleasure when they get them so wrong. Just allude to the character being from a certain place and the reader/listener will be able to fill in the blanks. Perhaps if the storyline had been interesting I might have gone ahead and bought the Kindle version so I could finish it but it was really dull and seemed only to be about famous historical figures all conveniently visiting the house that the cat was haunting during the different decades he was there. Maybe it got better later on but life is too short to waste any more time listening to a story that doesn't transport me, read by a narrator that hurts my ears. It's a no from me.
