Summary

From Anne McCaffrey comes a collection of captivating short stories that focuses on everything from spaceship adventure and shifting time-storms to ghosts and romance. The title story, set in the world of the Dragonriders of Pern series, tells of Aramina, a teenage girl who hears dragons and is relentlessly pursued for her ability. Aramina's mother fears losing her daughter completely to the life of a dragonrider, but McCaffrey has another fate in mind for her young heroine.

Other novellas included are Duty Calls—an exciting tale in the Ship Who Sang series—and A Quiet One, where large animals have had to make way for an expanding human population.

Badly abridged

Just 3 short stories, only the first about the "Girl who heard dragons", the other two were just generic sf. Very disappointing.

This is why abridged stories should be avoided.

Not sure if this is the case in the original book, but it isn't mentioned in its description, but it reads as three short unrelated stories, not one complete tale.

Badly abridged

Didn't realise this was abridged till after I had bought it. It is read by a lady with an irritating american accent and as a consequence is not easy to listen to. It is a collection of short stories all of which feel unfinished and have very abrupt endings. All in all a disappointing book
