Summary

Bestselling authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke make their suspense debut in this twisty, emotional thriller.

Elementary school teacher Jacqueline "Jacks" Morales's marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable, familiar. Or at least she thought it was...until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn't alone.

For Jacks, laying her husband to rest was hard. But it was even harder to think that his final moments belonged to another woman - one who had left behind her own grieving and bewildered fiancé. Nick, just as blindsided by the affair, wants answers. So he suggests that he and Jacks search for the truth together, retracing the doomed lovers' last days in paradise.

Now, following the twisting path of that fateful road, Jacks is learning that nothing is ever as it seems. Not her marriage. Not her husband. And most certainly not his death...

A slow burner

The story is slow and, for the most part, predictable. Then there is a good twist which makes the ending suspenseful. But not entirely certain that the predictability of the first several hours was worth the fast-paced ending.

Brilliant

Great read. Found it hard to put down. Kept me surprised and gasping in disbelief.... often shouting out no! To the narrator and hiding my face in my hands, when the plot took an unexpected turn or twist. Totally believable. Not to keen on the american accent of the narrator... i found it irritating..... but none the less a must have read!!!

"Enjoyable"

Picture the scenario you are married to the man of your dreams all seems rosy until you reveal a secret that festers, you have an argument & never see him again. I am trying not to give the story away but this also affects someone else who turns up on your doorstep and he is not all he seems on the surface.

This book describes the characters well and the ending is dramatic and concludes in my opinion as it should. Read it and find out

Very enjoyable listen!

I tend to be a little dubious of books written by more than one author. My previous experience has been jarring, where it seemed obvious when one writer left off and another took over. Happily, this isn't the case here. This is a very enjoyable listen. The characters are well drawn, the story engaging throughout and the twist at the end saved it from falling flat. I have a preference for British and Irish books, and narrators. I struggle with some female American narrators when their voice is too nasal, but the narrator here is very good.

unexpected

This was really great and totally took me by surprise.
I wasn't expecting the ending at all.
Lots of plot twists kept me gripped and I couldn't stop listening.
The narration was very good and made it a pleasure to listen to.

Unbelievable characters, drippy main

Hugely disappointing. Unbelievable and whiny love story for a grade three reader. Phrases like ‘put my heart on a shelf’ come from the men and annoying pet names throughout. I can’t imagine who lives in this writer’s world but I hope I never meet them. Not even an original ending. Don’t buy, move on.
