Summary
The New Testament: The Gospel of Luke is the third of the four canonical gospels. It was written around AD 80-100. It traditionally doesn't name its author, but the church believes it was written by Luke the Evangelist, a companion of Paul. This book tells of the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of the Messiah Jesus Christ.
The book of Luke is the second longest of the four gospels. Together with Acts of the Apostles, the pair make up a two-volume work from the same pen, called Luke - Acts.
The book says that God's purpose for Jesus Christ is in the way he has acted and will continue to act in history. It divides the history of Christianity into three stages and describes the first two of them - the arrival among men of Jesus the Messiah, from his birth to the beginning of his earthly mission in the meeting with John the Baptist, followed by his earthly ministry, Passion, death, and resurrection.
