Summary
The New Testament: The Gospel of Mark is one of the four canonical gospels and the three synoptic gospels. It was written around AD 66-70 by John Mark, a companion and interpreter of the Apostle Peter. This book tells of the ministry of Jesus, from his baptism by John the Baptist to his death, his burial, and the discovery of the empty tomb. It doesn't contain any postresurrection appearances.
The book of Mark is traditionally believed to be a summary of the book of Matthew because of its place as the second Bible gospel. But some scholars regarded the book of Mark as the earliest gospel.
The book describes Jesus Christ as a hero, a healer, an exorcist, and the son of God. All this is in keeping with prophecy, which foretold his fate as a suffering servant. The gospel ends with the discovery of the empty tomb, a promise to meet again in Galilee, and an unheeded instruction to spread the good news of the resurrection.
