Entrancing

The blend of modern and mythical themes made for an exciting storyline, with the twists that police intervention and the relationships with the non mystical characters kept my interest throughout. Now I feel that I would like to know more about English Folklore.

Favourite Read This Year (… so far)

Excellent story with well thought out time line. It pays excellent homage to regional folklore and English History.

The story (stories) all intertwine to a satisfactory conclusion, whilst leading you through an enjoyable life of fantasy and reality.

Just OK but generally enjoyable

I like to try out as much as I can from the plus catalogue and this seemed to hit the nail on the head for me! UK based murder mystery with some folklore and magic.
Firstly the main character is rather unlikeable, and a bit of an idiot and secondly, the story almost seems like two in one.
it can also be a bit unnecessarily crass.
But the magical beings, the historical folklore and taking on various quests of good v evil are enjoyable.
The narrator is good too. A decent enough listen!

Enjoyable Fantasy set in modern day England

This would be an urban fantasy, except it's set in the countryside. :)
I read this book a while ago and loved it, so was very happy to see it on Audible as well. At first I thought the narrator was a bit stiff, but it actually works with the story's narrator.

The setting is modern day England where dryads, naiads and other wildwood creatures linger in the fringes unseen by most people.

One of the things I enjoy about this story is the strong internal logic. Also, nobody is a superman/woman. Wildwood creatures have powers, but also limitations. The narrator is a good man, but he has a couple of chips on his shoulder and makes mistakes. When he gets into a fight, he gets hurt.

I can't say how strongly I would recommend this book to either read or listen.

Enjoyed this one

I enjoyed this audiobook. It went off at a bit of a tangent in the last few chapters, what with chasing the wyrm and all. The wyrm seemed somewhat disconnected from the prior chapters of the book. Still, it was a good yarn.
I liked both the human and dryad type characters. The descriptions of them were interesting. I love anything to do with The Green Man, so happy he was included.

I do own an old Land Rover, and I do wish Dan hadn’t kept referring to his as ‘the Landy’. I don’t know anyone who calls their vehicle a Landy. It’s obviously a station wagon of some ilk, so I can’t understand why he puts the huge supernatural ‘dog’ on the passenger seat. I guess this is a Land Rover owner being picky, but trust me, it’s just not something you’d do. 🙄 You’d put it in the back or in the footwell.

I liked this book enough to look at the next one in the series. Unfortunately Audible got a different narrator and after listening to the dragging sample, I won’t be buying it. Such a disappointment. I was looking forward to what happened next. ☹️

Modern day mythology

I really enjoyed this one, it’s well narrated and the story keeps you guessing what’s going to happen next. Will be picking up the next in the series.

Brilliant, but don't get the sequel

Such a great read, very well narrated. I was really looking forward to the sequel, but they changed narrator and the new one is genuinely unlistenable.
