Carolyn Pickles retraces the true story of how 11 people came to be brutally cut with a deadly sharp implement, in a spate of attacks that left a town in a state of fear and police mystified about the identity of the attacker.

Halifax, West Yorkshire, 1938. The hunt is on for a razor-wielding attacker, possibly a murderer. The papers name him 'The Halifax Slasher'. A huge reward is offered for leads to his arrest. Vigilante groups form, and innocent men are set upon. Baffled, police argue with each other about how to catch the suspect.

This real-life whodunnit is told in the voices of victims, police officers, newspapers, townsfolk and historians.

The evidence is all here. Can you guess the Slasher's identity?

A real toe curler with an ironic twist

Based on a true and authenticated story, the intrigues in each chapter seemed at first to support the intrigues and develop the deepening plot until suddenly the thrust changes and one is left with a "well I never!" Moment as the ultimate truth is revealed.

Well told by both narrator and actors, it gives pause for thought in considering other true local stories which may have been blown up out of proportion may have gone undiscovered over time, not only in this geographical location, but also in any other neighbourhood literally in the world.

Wasn’t Expecting That Ending!

Me and my wife say and listens this evening from start to finish and we’re gripped throughout.

Very well done and very well read/acted out.

As we didn’t know the story we were VERY surprised with the ending. I’ll say no more than that.

Definitely worth a listen!

Twist and turns like the streets of Halifax

This was a great little story that took you back to a time of the every day man going about his business. Great performances. Brilliantly read by Carolyn Pickles.

Best paced crime podcast I’ve ever listened to

I’ve found other crime podcasts like this to shift timelines sporadically to give other perspectives and found it so hard to keep track of. This was so well paced, every episode had me hooked and was delivered exceptionally well.
