About this listen
When Claire sees Hannah Wilson at an exclusive Manhattan hair salon, it's like a knife slicing through barely healed scars. It may have been 10 years since Claire last saw Hannah, but she has thought of her every day, and not in a good way. So Claire does what anyone would do in her position - she stalks her.
Hannah is now Mrs. Carter, living the charmed life that should have been Claire's. It's the life Claire used to have before Hannah came along and took it all away from her.
Back then, Claire was a happy teenager with porcelain skin and long blond wavy hair. Now she's an overweight, lazy drunk with hair the color of compost and skin to match. And that’s why when Hannah advertises for a housekeeper, Claire is confident she can apply and not be recognized - especially since she has time on her hands, revenge on her mind, and a talent for acting....
What better way to seek retribution - and redress - than from within the beautiful Mrs. Hannah Carter's own home?
But it's not just Claire who has secrets. Everyone in that house seems to have something to hide.
And now, there's no way out.

Susie Berneis’ narration is possibly better than the plot
I loved the narrator! She did such a brilliant job of being the main protagonist, Claire Peterson, as well as flitting between the other characters and all their voices… I think I enjoyed her performance more than the story itself… much of which was absorbing, but fell short for me as we nearer the end, and it all seemed a little too convenient, and unconvincing. I also didn’t see the need for wrapping everyone’s lives up in bows at the very end. As you can’t give .5 in scores, I’ll say it earns 3.5 from me.

Literally couldn't stop listening
I don't often write reviews (too tired and too meh about most books I seem to choose) but this one was a real page turner (or the Audible equivalent anyway). Characters are well-developed, excellent storyline, and the narrator is phenomenally talented.

Wow
Incredible book - literally could not stop listening to it! The characters are well developed - especially Claire! I didn’t expect all of the twists and turns - I thought two or three times I knew what was going up happen but was wrong! The narrator was brilliant- although….she was narrating a women in her 20s but her voice reminded me of Sue the gym teacher from Glee so that’s how I pictured throughout 😂

Brilliant!!
Loved this book. Full of twists, well written, intriguing and interesting throughout.
This would make a great film or TV series.
Great narrator, the only criticism I would make is that the character she was portraying was only supposed to be 24yrs old but the narrator sounded much older.
A great listen!
Definitely recommended

Uninteresting
Her book THE LOYAL WIFE was brilliant. I chose this one thinking that there would be good stand turns but not at all. Actually found it had a boring ending.

Tense, Twisty, Gripping
Great title. Took a chance as I don't often read these types of books but I was hooked and couldn't wait to get back to it every day.

Excellent listen
The only part I found off putting was the narrators voice did not match what I would imagine the main character Clare to sound like, she is in her early twenties but the narrators voice sounds quite a bit older

Okay
Very slow and contrived plot. Good narration just about saved it. Not as good as other books. Y same author

Loved it!
I loved this story, including the ending which didn’t try to put unnecessary twists and turns in it. Definitely recommend.
