Summary

Jack Winslow is taking a break from Little Feather.

After the revelation that the paranormal world is real, Jack has been struggling with the fact that almost everyone he knows has been secretly lying to him. Thinking a trip to his uncle’s cabin will help him take his mind off of things, he heads to the Ozarks of Missouri.

But not long after he arrives he finds that Crystal Cove has its own set of problems, and they seem to be paranormal in nature. Jack wants nothing more than to mind his own business and unwind on a much-needed vacation, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Instead, he finds himself facing a paranormal menace he’s sure even Miranda hasn’t faced.

Can he help the people of Crystal Cove find peace, or will he find himself in more trouble than he knows how to handle?

Hunting for a good story

I enjoyed this book, the only reason it got a four star review is because it started off very slow, I know the author needs to set the scene but the story needs to grab the listener and keep them engaged if you want them to finish the book. Once it picks up it does become more interesting and entertaining. This book is in the Miranda Riley Cozy Mystery Series but she isn't actually in it. Instead it continues on from where the last book left off, with Jack heading of to try and come to terms with the fact that his friends are magical creatures and been keeping it a secret from him. It does work as a standalone but it is also a nice continuation of the series, especially as you get to learn a little bit more about Jack's family life. I will be looking out for the next book in the series.
After learning about the secrets and mysteries his town and friends have been hiding from him, Jack heads back to a place he knows well or thinks he knows. Not even his uncle's cabin turns out to be the safe haven he remembers. The magical creatures he tried so hard to get away from by leaving Little Feather are present at Crystal Cove and Jack finds himself dealing with a paranormal problem on his own. Can he keep the town's people safe or will he fall under the spell and become the hunter.
It seemed strange to have a male narrator, even though the main character is male, especially one with such a gruff voice but once I got use to him he was quite pleasant enough.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.
