Strangely dull
Maybe it’s because male authors don’t always get it right with female characters but “Sara” is a cardboard cutout as the main protagonist in this story. She’s a young Muslim barrister chosen to be part of an investigative panel into relations between government and the Muslim community. The author does nothing to flesh out her beliefs and motivations, while darkly referring to the past and her receipt of an email warning of a terrorist attack in 2005.
The sinister Karim has ham actor lines and plays the villain throughout. The plot is meandering and repetitive with no tension being built before the handful of (unlikely) deaths.
The narrator irritated me by always lowering his voice to an almost inaudible pitch when reading the female parts and generally made the whole story pretty lifeless. His voice for Karim was so laughably Middle Eastern villainous it made me reach for the fast forward button even when I was half asleep.
Really, this book is a bit of a turkey. Don’t waste a credit on it.

The Inquiry
I really enjoyed this book it was gripping from beginning to end. It would make a fantastic TV conspiracy series with a truly shocking end. Great work Will Caine, I can’t wait for the next.

Mills and Boon meets Dan Brown
Completely unbelievable plot. Cliched characters uttering cliched dialogue. Starts out badly and gets much, much worse. Dreadful.
