A page turner

Loved this book so much. Very difficult to put down as just had to read one more chapter as the story was so engaging. Looking forward to many more books from this author.

Wow

The Instrumentalist is one of the best books I have ever read. Helped a little by a deep live of classical music, but a brilliant and beautifully wowed story. Thank you.

A life full of wonder and heartbreak

This was a really intriguing story of how ambition can create opportunities but also make you blind to what’s right in front of you. Anna Maria della Pieta had an excellent talent which sadly was never known to the world, but this book shows how she went from wanting fame and recognition to recognising that friendship and talent can be as powerful as anything.

5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Atmosphere

An evocative step into 18th century Venice and a very credible account of Anna Maria delle Piteta - an outstanding violinist and orphan. Painfully revealing the submission of girls and women and their exploitation. It’s warm, engaging if very slightly over written in places - for me anyway.

Beautiful gripping story based on a real person

A lovely meander through the two sides of 18c Venice with stunning descriptions of music notation and the determination of a girl to succeed despite her background and societal conventions.

Instrumentalist

Just marvellous, one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time, she’s a very talented writer. Eagerly waiting for her next story. The narrator is also excellent.

“What more is there to discover?” - it’s a good question!

A totally absorbing & satisfying tale - beautifully read, I found it well worth a second listen:
As well as the central story, I enjoyed the
‘snapshots’ of the city & its community - including glimpses of the ‘seamy side’:
Wonderful characterisation of people from all walks of life, & I repeat that the reading itself is so articulate & calming, that it allows the listener to focus on the story - which is very well researched & developed:
I would recommend this title, both as a biography & an impression of 18th century Venice, itself
