About this listen

What blinkered Einstein and Edison? Why did Steve Jobs and NASA make lethal errors of judgement? How might environmental disaster and social inequality be averted?

It is time for us to learn a new way of thinking.

The 21st century presents complex problems that require a wiser way of reasoning, one that recognises our current limitations, tolerates ambiguity and uncertainty, balances multiple perspectives, and bridges diverse areas of expertise.

Whatever our age and experience, whether a NASA scientist or a school student, we will benefit from wielding our minds with insight, precision, social sensitivity and humility.

In an exhilarating journey through current research, drawing on insight from Socrates to Benjamin Franklin and some of the world’s most successful industries, award-winning science journalist David Robson shows how to build a cognitive toolkit to help us all maximise our full potential.

Groundbreaking insights

Wonderful book that introduces the concept of evidence based wisdom. Covers personal life, education and organizational life. Filled with practical insights on how one can make better decisions, reduce the impact of our hard wired cognitive blind spots and generally live wiser lives

Great

The author has collated a lot of evidence presented by a wide range of authors on a diverse range of subjects. Whilst I have listened to many of the books he refrerences I certainly thought this book was a good investment of my listening time.

Good easy to read book

In particular the education and teamwork section at the end of this book is worth its purchase. The remainder of the book is interesting but less informative.

The Bible of the new age

Well communicated, and consistently objective. This book will tear you apart and build you back up with shiny new parts and some good scaffolding.

Interesting points, quite academic

I think within a number of good ideas are raised. However, it can get a little bit tedious. A summary would be great.

Most inspiring book in a long time.

Essential for understanding other's apparent stupidity and, crucially, one self's!
Take it from an expert...

Makes you think.

This is a tremendous way of bringing together some really fascinating research into how we decide and think. The narrative throughout makes for a good listen (read) and allows the science to shine through in a really accessible way.
I think there is something for everyone in this and I challenge you not to take something away for you to work on!
