About this listen

This is an audio enhanced version - with music and sound effects - of a book long hailed as one of the great science fiction classics, H.G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau. It tells the story of Edward Prendick, a shipwreck survivor who is brought to an uncharted island where he encounters Doctor Moreau, a mad scientist bent on experimenting with human/animal hybrids.

Described by Wells himself as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy," this story is a disturbing and fascinating look into the moral responsibility of scientific experimentation, the ethics of meddling with the natural world and, ultimately, what it means to be human.

Great

A classic, but one I had never had the opportunity to read.

The story was interesting, but the ambience provided by the sound effects and music really made it come alive.

The narrator had the perfect voice for a classic

I was offered this book in exchange for an honest review
