Very comprehensive

This guide is very comprehensive and explained several aspects from puberty to menopause, including the science, various symptoms, most effective treatments and alternative treatments and therapies, as well as nutrition, pelvic floor exercises and sexual health, toys etc. Dr Philippa explained each part well, with evidence of efficacy and even explaining studies and myths too.
This book is useful by to all, but it’s based on U.K. healthcare system, therefore many recommendations don’t really apply to those that live elsewhere.

So informative and relatable

In the opening of this book, it described the menopause as a "taboo" subject, and something that wasn't really talked about...and I thought, "what a load of rubbish, everyone knows about the menopause".

By the time I was halfway through, I realised that she was right and I definitely had only known a fraction of the "menopause story" beforehand; and I felt angry and cheated...why had no-one ever told me these things before?

I actually cried at a couple of points when I realised that some of the things I was struggling with, and had put down to being inevitable because of age, were in fact menopause related and more importantly, completely treatable.

I'm not the kind of person that would usually say something like this...but this book may have just changed my life! I am so glad to have stumbled across it.

Every woman should read this!

I’ve listed to this book a few times over the last couple of times and I always find it brilliant… there is so much content that it’s easy to forget parts so regular refreshers are good! Philippa’s knowledge on menopause is deep and thorough but she makes it easy to understand and lighthearted with the down to earth telling of facts and stories. The perfect mix of doctor, mother and best friend chat all in one!

Classroom sales material at best

Boring and cringeworthy. A typical uneducated doctor's perspective of the menopause and then a sales pitch of HRT. The fact that she dismissed nutrition forced me to get a refund. If you like being spoken to like a child you'll enjoy it.

Interesting but....

Overall I found this book interesting, especially as I'm pretty sure I'm Perimenopausal. However, I did end up feeling like it was sponsored by HRT. I get that as a Doctor the author will be trained and feel that HRT is the automatic option. And yes there are a couple of chapters that feature alternatives and good lifestyle changes. But the whole book felt like an advert for HRT and I would have liked the complimentary options to be given as each symptom was discussed, instead of all lumped together at the end.

I found the anecdotes by the different women very interesting and enjoyable. And I learnt a lot about the menopause.
