About this listen

For Southern girl Verity Long, friendship means sitting down to stories and sweet tea on the front porch. For her gangster ghost housemate, it means dragging Verity out to a remote haunted asylum during a raging thunderstorm to do a favor for a long-dead mob boss.

But Verity is always ready to help out a friend, even one as eternally eccentric as Frankie. And in the case of Mint Julep Manor, the stakes are too high to refuse. The criminally insane mob boss holds a secret to Frankie’s past, one that might set Frankie free. Do the favor - survive the favor - and they might change Frankie’s afterlife for good. Fail, and they might never leave the asylum.

Another Spine-Tinglingly Good Mystery

I am a fan of this series; I love Ms Fox's writing style, the pace at which her tale flows, how she weaves all the elements together and how she gets me completely engaged in the story.

The present day murders and the mysteries run alongside the series background story arcs - Verity and Ellis's relationship and discovering the way to free Frankie. All of the aspects come together to make one gripping book.

I downloaded the narration and found myself reading along while listening to the story play out, which has become my favourite way to get lost in a book. As a narrated book, I was once again impressed with Tavia Gilbert's performance; loving the pace at which she read the story, the way she added emotional inflection to the sad, funny or tense scenes and her tonal variations for the dialogue between the characters.

I really loved this story, although some of the scenes were less than cozy. It has everything that I look for in a 5 star story; I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat (I was even scared at times) in short, I was gripped! Murder, mystery, humour and a sprinkling of romance what more could a girl want!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ‘cozy mysteries’ with a paranormal focus.

Ending Lost

the last few chapters listed are a mess of repeated earlier chapters. So the ending isn't there. Dreadful quality control.
