About this listen
‘Vivid and compelling’ Rosamund Lupton, bestselling author of Three Hours
A house stands alone in the woods.
Deep in the forests of Norway, Lexi finds a fresh start with Tom and his two young daughters, working as their new nanny.
The darkness creeps closer.
But Lexi is telling lies, and she’s not the only one. This family has a history – and this place has a past. Something was destroyed to build this house, and in the dark, dark woods, a menacing presence lurks.
Lexi must protect the children in her care – but protect them from what?
Atmospheric, gothic, spine-chilling, the new thriller from C.J Cooke will haunt you long after you turn the last page . . .

Bought on a whim...
...almost returned it buttock with it and actually, throughly enjoyed it. Superb narration helped!
Not my usual fodder at all but I think I might highly recommend this book.
Weird. :)

atmospheric masterpiece
I found the pacing to be fantastic. It's a main character you want to root for, and the story is rich in description and atmosphere. The narration was great, with the range of accents adding quality.

Dragged on.
Interesting parts were fleeting and the ending was very rushed. Shame. It had potential.

Unusual story unpredictable to the end
This was an interesting story with some Norwegian folklore woven through it. Narration was solid throughout, not jarring or distracting. A good listen

promising but disappointed
I enjoyed the first dozen or so chapters but the story became stale and the narration became irritating.
I came back to it hoping to be re inspired but the lack of direction made me give up at chapter 25 sorry but it was a bit slow and unconvincing for me

Brilliant and terrifying.
This was a very different tale in so many ways.. My chosen medium was audio book, and the story had me gasping in fear and crying over two wonderful little girls and sobbing for the story teller in the book. As for the narrator Aysha Kala, she brought each character to life for me; Lexi/Chloe, the other adults, and the children who play such an important part in the book. I didn’t know want it to end but I couldn’t stop listening! So, a brilliant book from C. J. Cooke, whose work I’ve never come across before but whose books I will definitely be reading more of. But the icing on the cake and what really made it for me was Aysha’s narration. My next task is finding another book read by her! 10 stars at least!

One of the very best story tellers …
CJ Cooke is fast becoming my favourite author, her books are rich, imaginative, her characters are believable and I always feel very invested in the main protagonist. The Nesting is no different, exploring Nordic folklore and mental illness it’s a really clever blend that draws you in. Parts are claustrophobic and creepy (in the best way) just close your eyes and you will be transported to the places of which she writes.
