Summary

In this multi-biographical history of a family in India, Shantaben enters an arranged marriage at age 14. Before she can join her husband in Africa, she must serve his family for several years.

Arriving in Kenya, Shantaben dreams of having her own family. But she finds no community, no support, and no medical resources. Their first year together claims the life of their child and nearly ends Shantaben’s. Sustained by her culture and faith, she survives.

Family fortunes improve and her children go to England for studies, each experiencing their own coming of age. But Shantaben hears horror stories of students failing, marrying outside the culture and never retuning home. Would she lose her children to foreign wives and communities? Would they ever return home?

This multicultural story of great love and forgiveness, full of rich personal stories and the exotic spice of history, will inspire listeners of all generations to find the power of love within their own lives.
