Summary

At the end of the fourth year of the Crisis Era, Yun Tianming, riddled with cancer, chose to end his life. But death for Yun Tianming is merely the first step in a journey that will place him on the front line of a war that has raged since the beginning of time.

As Yun Tianming lay dying, his brain was extracted from his body, flash frozen, put aboard a spacecraft and launched on a trajectory to intercept the Trisolarian First Fleet. It was a desperate plan. But there was an infinitesimal chance that one day Tianming may, somehow, send valuable information back to Earth. And so he does. But not before he succumbed to subjective centuries of alien torture and betrayed humanity.

Rewarded with a cloned body by the Trisolarans, Tianming has spent millennia in exile as a traitor to the human race. But now he has a chance at redemption. A being calling itself The Spirit recruits him to help wage war against a foe that threatens the existence of the entire universe. But Tianming refuses to be a pawn again. He has his own plans....

Epic Story

A great book and audiobook! I've really enjoyed this story. I like how it fills the gaps and improves on the previous works. Glad I didn't skipped it. I had a bad experience with prequels from the Dune universe and thought this book might disappoint. It did not, GJ !

a great little addition.

even though I think the trilogy has a good ending already and leaves much open to imagination, this fan book does tie it all off very nicely. it's been added to my head-canon. i really loved the ending.

didn't really like the references to other bits of sci-fi and mythology though, I feel like the author was trying too hard there (restaurant at the end of the universe? really?).
overall however, well worth the credit.

A true Fan Fiction

I liked this book, but it’s not a continuation of three body problem, rather a dream of a possibility and something completely different.
I’d recommend the book but would advise that if you are expecting a continuation of three body you might be disappointed or not.

Amazing additional to one of the best scifi series ever

Truly a worthy expansion to the universe of the Three-Body Problem. I hope the author keeps it up. I listened to whole audiobook at literally one go. Couldn't stop. Highly recommended.

An epic and harder to follow

This book is a continuation of a great epic but expands (literally) in time and space at a massively accelerated rate which makes the various plot lines much harder to follow. I’m assuming the translation from Chinese to English is very good, but as an English reader, the characters’ names were extremely confusing Overall though some incredible concepts and a really good exploration of the Fermi paradox

Beyond believe

I have never enjoyed listening to a series more than I have The three body problem and this book tied all the story lines into a nice neat package.

This is NOT a prequel to the 3 body trilogy!!!

WARNING: Do not read this fan fiction before you have read all three volumes of "The Three Body" problem by Cixin Liu as it is FULL of spoilers and will detract from your enjoyment of the 3 body series.

The book itself is set in the same Universe but the events are inserted into the 3 body timeline before, during and after the events of the trilogy. As it is advertised as a prequel and appeared on Audible before the final 3 body volume I listened to it after listening to books 1 and 2 of the trilogy = there seemed to be a lot of non-sequiturs and sudden. shifts in events and characters and I then realised one needs to have read volume 3 before starting this book. I estimate the false advertising reduced my eventual enjoyment of volume three by around 30%..

That gripe out of the way, this book is a good listen/read and supplements the original trilogy without too much distortion of Cixin Liu's original story and I would recommend it as a fourth volume of the story. I do wonder what would happen in Cixin Liu were to want to write a fourth volume himself, having had his intellectual property impinged upon by what is actually fan fiction. Apparently Liu did not object to the publication of Baoshu's continuation of the story, so I guess he never had any intention of developing this Story Universe any further.

Fan fiction. Interesting but a bit silly

I purchased this book because it was listed as the fourth book in the Remembrance of Earth’s Past series, without realising that it is by a different author.

This is in fact fan fiction - set in the same universe and using the same characters. It is a fun imagination of some gaps in the story and also taking the story forward. It gives backgrounds to some of the characters.

Overall I enjoyed it, When a long and all engrossing series comes to an end it often leaves me with a feeling of wanting to remain with it for a bit more, so in that way it was a nice rounding-off of the story. It gave depth and clarity to some characters and ideas. There were a few bits that I enjoyed for their pure surprise value! It had a much more light-hearted mood than the RoEP books.

But it did get a little ridiculous and silly at times. It skims over the science in large parts, this author is clearly not as adept at writing about novel scientific ideas as Cixin Liu. So less science and more fiction.

Overall I would recommend the read/ listen, though it’s not in the same league.

a very nice roundup to complete the saga

great story very well written and draws in many of the unanswered elements of the 3 body books, loved it, it's a definite must for anyone who's read the other books. helped by the same gentle narrator styled perfectly! highly recommend
