Hobbits sing better than Andy

Perfection perfected.
I didn’t think after the first two books things could improve, but Mr Serkis and the team have indeed surpassed themselves. If you are reading this then you probably already bought the first two and you don’t need me to tell how how good they are. You hand already spent your credit on this one…right?

Serkis Sensational!
Well I just did the full journey from The Hobbit all the way through Return of the King with Andy Serkis narrating.
LOTR will always be one of my fantasy favourites, the latest narration with the voice of Andy was sensational. He really added a whole new dimension to the series with each character having their own distinctive voices and of course Sméagol in full swing!
Love it and highly recommend ;)

Narration by Andy Serkis is excellent
I have read the Lord of the Rings
many times. I approached istening to it a little sceptically because I realised that a bad narrator could utterly ruin the experience; but as regards Andy Serkis. I need not have worried.
HOWEVER, BEWARE - Audible has another narrator on sale, which I found out when I accidentally bought the wrong Return of the King (last of the three volumes). That narrator is APPALLINGLY bad - I gave him a chance, but couldn't bear to listen for any more than 10 minutes. I bought the Serkis version and wrote off the wasted cost. If you have never read the Lord of the Rings, take care - don't allow a bad narrator to ruin your experience of this wonderful book.

Brilliant narration, poor singing
I would recommend this version to everyone without hesitation. Andy Serkis is a brilliant narrator. Every single character has their own voice, and to here the same Gollum/Sméagol as the films is magical.
My only criticism is the singing. Andy Serkis’ singing is fine for the rustic characters, such as hobbits, but for high elves, it doesn’t do justice. For a few hundred quid more the producers could have hired a session singer for a day and got a much better result.

Sad for the end, but it was a journey!
Book 19/21 for 2021.
So I did it, reading physical books, kindle, three different audiobook recordings, I finally finished Lord of the Rings!
I enjoyed this, it was shorter than I expected which is fine, I found the battles etc kind of numbing and overall I think I prefer Two Towers still - I think I've said everything there is to be said in my prior two reviews, all I can say is I "Get It", I enjoy Tolkein even if not to the extent of some others. I love the homely feel, the emotional resonance and all that - I just can't find traction with the dry and dense exposition at times.
I think I'll rewatch the films, and watch other adaptions and reread the series at some point with a fresh mind - but at the moment I can just say I appreciate Middle Earth and LOTR, but I'll be taking something of a break from it for now...

5 stars isn’t enough
Been meaning to read lord of the rings since I watched the first film as a 10 year old boy. Once I caught word of Andy serkis narration I picked the whole trilogy and the hobbit up and what an absolute treat it was. The story itself needs no praise but Andy’s performance in this is truly great

absolutely fantastic
I love ALL of the books and are my favourites once again Andy Serkis has out done himself with reading these books his performance is really good I could listen to him forever and he had the characters down to a tee I do hope that he reads more books as he brings them to life
