About this listen

After years of escaping etiquette lessons in favor of the stables, Christine Devon's grand debut in London is only weeks away, though her deportment lacks the sophisticated polish she needs to achieve her goals of a lofty marriage. Desperate to take her place in society, she needs someone to instruct her in proper behavior.

Thomas Gilbert, newly returned from Italy, is ready to begin his dream of founding a horse farm. But during his time away, the estate's finances have dwindled to almost nothing. Unless he can find a way to save his family from ruin, he will be forced to sell his horses and give up his dreams entirely.

A chance meeting between them may solve both their problems. Christine gains a tutor in the finer arts of polite behavior, while Thomas is given access to the finest bloodlines in England. But as time passes, the arrangement is less about business and more about love.

Will they see it in time, or will Christine leave Thomas behind for the splendor of London's ballrooms?

Simple romance with patchy narration

Story enjoyable but some sentences read oddly by a narrator who did not have an understanding of their meaning. She paused in the wrong places and also mispronounced some words. Would not listen to another book read by her for these reasons.

Dreary

The narrator is awful and does nothing with or for the story. A more accomplished narrator could perhaps have transformed the book into worthwhile listening.

Soothing voice

Loved the story however the writer should have added more chemistry between the main characters.

A really good listen

It took me a while to get accustomed to the some what breathy style of the narrator and I did think right at the start I might have to give up. However, once I got into the story it ceased to be an issue.
Sally Britton books can always be relied on for a very good story.

Charming story…

The story in itself is rather charming - a long spin and could be made more enticing BUT all in all - charming and entertaining and makes me want to hear book II now :-)

The narrator did a lovely job- yes, she could emphasise more but again she doesn’t let down and is easy to understand and follow…

Not usual, delightful, romantic, perfect narration

Ever since reading my first Regency romance, by the sepreme Georgette Heyer, I have delighted in the genre. If you like her books, you will probably like this. The narration is perfect.
