About this listen

This title contains strong language and mature themes, including references to sexual violence, abuse of minors and animals, and suicide, that some listeners may find upsetting. Discretion is advised.

I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband.

They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months.

I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake.

Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me.

I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Don’t underestimate me. I’ll do anything to keep my daughter safe.

Everyday family life in rural Wales

Totally ludicrous storyline, horrible characters, great Welsh narrator. I shouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did, but it was undeniably entertaining.

Absolutely brilliant!

One of those excellent mysteries that unfolds so gradually that you spend a lot of time disliking the wrong character

Brilliant

I really enjoyed this story. The characters are well developed and believable. The plot twists and turns with some predictable bits but it’s still very gripping.
I highly recommend this.

Made women look pathetic

In some points in this book I was so frustrated with how pathetic this author made all the women to be, not a chance in hell would anyone have that little self respect. Only finished it because it was a freebie. I would not recommend

Never trust a first impression

What looked like a slam dunk for sure wasn’t. But even with expecting all sorts of developments it was clear from the start that it wouldn’t be that straight forward. Nothing went the way you’d expect though. Even the end was another big twist and all comes together, or not? I’m still not sure who is the real villain but that’s the paranoia the book instilled in me trying to follow the clues. I’ll never trust my instincts again and will look over my shoulder while walking in the Welsh mountains.
I enjoyed the rollercoaster though and are looking forward to more books by the author.

It was pretty good

I liked the narration, nice voices. I didn’t not enjoy the character of the daughter.weak and meant,I guess she was written well to illicit such a response,so annoying. Good and twisty, but got silly rather fast towards the end. Such a shame, one well murder would have been enough rather than a bunch of coincidentally discovered ones.

Decent story, good narration

Decent enough story, liked the narration style.
Maybe goes on a bit too long after what could have been conclusion.

Far fetched storyline and predictable

Storyline was far fetched and twists predictable from early on. The narration was good, but the daughter character really ruined it for me. Such a whiny, pathetic character - I think you were supposed to empathise with her but it had the opposite effect on me.
