Summary

Lennox is a troubled teenager with no family. Ava is eight months pregnant and fleeing her abusive husband. Heather is a grieving mother and cancer sufferer. They don't know each other, but when a meteor streaks over Edinburgh, all three suffer instant, catastrophic strokes...only to wake up the following day in hospital, miraculously recovered. When news reaches them of an octopus-like creature washed up on the shore near where the meteor came to earth, Lennox senses that some extra-terrestrial force is at play.

With the help of Ava, Heather, and a journalist named Ewan, he rescues the alien - who they christen 'Sandy' - and goes on the run. But they aren't the only ones with an interest in Sandy. Close behind are Ava's husband, the police, and a government unit who wants to capture the creature at all costs...

something very different

Really enjoyed this story. a different take on an old theme told in very modern language (sometimes a little too much of the 'f "word!) but so natural and could relate so much to the characters. Brilliant side stories and each character telling their piece of the tale. Well worth anyone's read but peaticilsrly if you like understandable syfy !!!

Enthralling storyline

A moving and absorbing story brilliantly narrated. Was sorry it ended and hope there is a sequel.

Different form Doug' usual characters and plots.

Although it's different it does not make it bad. In fact I like a bit of SYFY every so often. I also like the idea that all the way out in the solar system can come to the East coast of Scotland, Porty and the surrounding areas. The plot is all about three people looking for help in different ways and how they are brought together by an event. Which then involves dodgy government departments and the police. I love the imagination involved in writing such a story and the narrator tells it so well.
Keep up the great work all who are involved.

Sadly not as good as I’d hoped

I really wanted to like this book but for some reason couldn’t get behind it. I loved the premise but sadly I found it a slight chore to finish. Despite starting off really intrigued I ended up losing interest in the characters and storyline by the end of it.

Loved it! Wonderful book, I’m so sad it’s ended!

I downloaded this after hearing about it on Between the Covers. I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in ages. I’m so sad it’s over but the ending suggests to me that there could well be another book so here’s hoping!

Fed up with the use of the F word

The story was original and hooked me from the beginning but as it progressed I got so fed up with the swearing that my interest petered off. I did finish it but won’t listen to any further books.

just brilliant. I'm not usually drawn to sci-fi. I loved the storyline & characters that came to life through the brilliant narration .

Pleasant surprise

I don't usually read/listen to sci-fi books but took a chance because I liked both the author and narrator. I loved this book, very different, and Angus King's brilliant performance brought humour, warmth and empathy to the main characters.
