Summary

Urban anarchist Harry Lampeter is employed by MI6 on a casual basis. Modern technology has collapsed, returning the world to the steam age. The war between Scotland and England, is on hold while the United States army of occupation keeps the peace. The Americans are in no hurry to leave, they plan to make Great Britain the 54th State of their Union. Scotland and England eye one another with mistrust and an arms race seems inevitable as the English plan building a fleet of Ironclad warships. Telford Stephenson, an agent of the Scottish Secret Intelligence Service, has stolen a copy of the Ironclad plans, but Harry Lampeter is hot on his trail.

OMG! Hopefully our future will be different!

It's a nice small easy-going story.
It's a good reading for a on the move listening, as it does not require absolute concentration.
It's an idea of a scary future...
But who knows???!
The narrative and the narrator voice are great.

Steampunk awesomeness

It's so addictive, the story has kept me on the edge of my seat though it's entirety. Can't wait for the prequel.

Harry Lampeter is back!

Harry, along with his group of colorful friends and “frenemies” is back! This tale is jam-packed with spies, bombs, and secret meetings!

Roger Ley has a talent for keeping things fresh, in a world where everything is old and rusty!

Craig Bowles narrates the story beautifully. The reader is so deeply immersed in the story, that it feels as if one is sitting right at the table with Shaky Tom and Harry Plotting shenanigans.

Steampunk fun & frolics

After enjoying the first in this series I was happy to receive a copy of the second audiobook which I listened to while drivng my work van making deliveries. I think I had a smile on my face most of the day while following the antics of Harry & Telford and all the others characters. Plenty of sarcastic & satyrical humour and the idea concerning the House of Lords gets a big thumbs up from me, loved it. A thoroughly enjoyable listen, well written and with a great narrator.

I received a free copy of this book at my request and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lots of fun

It's a short read, but worth the credit. This second outing of Harry Lampeter beats the first and will leave you wanting more of the world. Set in a changed future, borrowing on the technology of the past Harry seems to have split the difference and bounds through scraps, schemes and intrigues with the loose morals of a 1960s wide-boy on the make. It's fun and though it seems to lag and wander a bit in the middle, the reason for this becomes clear in a strong ending. Would listen again.

Action, action action

A great sequel, and as the title of the review states action all the way. A great paced book with the loveable Harry and Telford joining forces again to defeat a common enemy.
highly recommend. I'm off to listen to the next book in the series.

Inspired

The book is truely inspired the world building for it is extremely simple and very beliveable. Highly recommended to any steampunk lover though the narration sometimes sound abit tinny.

Steam Pump Adventures.

Imagine a world where a laboratory developed plastic eating bacteria has escaped and caused havoc by eating everything it could, Windows fall out of buildings because their seals have gone, electrical equipment fails throughout the world because the plastic coating wires has been eaten away, you get the plot. This the basis for this wonderful story from Roger Ley. It is hilarious in parts and a brilliant read. The characters are great and a lot of thought has gone into naming them even, like Telford Stephenson and an American Soldier called Hurlican to name but 2. Harry is a brilliant character if a little naughty at times and the dancing girls all add to the enjoyment of this book. Craig Bowles once again brings his own inimitable style to his narration which only makes it more listenable. I have already listened to it twice since getting it yesterday as i was a little tired first time round and heard more the second time. Would highly recommend and hope more of Rogers work will be introduced to Audible soon.

Well, if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't play

This is book 2 of the Steampunk adventures of Harry Lampeter. England and Scotkand are still at war, but this time not so much with each other, as against their new evil overlords from the USA.

With all the plastic gone, the world has returned to a new era of Steam Engines, Zeppelins and bicycles. plenty of vices still around though, and money and adventure to be made.
