About this listen

Disappear into the world of the Sunday Times best-selling Chocolat....

Faith. Secret. Magic. Murder....

Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her youngest child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.

But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. Then the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie, and has a strange appeal of its own - seems to herald a change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

Wonderful tale

I struggled at times to work out which character was speaking but this didn’t detract from a thoroughly enjoyable story of witchery and chocolate!

Chocolat completed.

Good to hear the completion of the Chocolat story with its familiar characters and strange mysticism.

Wonderful!

This was my first audiobook book & what a one to start my listening activities with. I was hooked from the start & my enthrallment grew with every passing chapter. JH is a master wordsmith, with a wizard of an imagination, both of which are enhanced by her narration. Thoroughly recommended.

Made me crave strawberry jam (straight from the jar)

As always, an impeccable storyline with intrigue and just a little magic. I love the way Joanne Harris doesn’t just tell a story, she weaves in the smells, the tastes and the temperature so that you are immersed in the book rather than just reading it.

Being read by the author is always a bonus. I think you understand the intent of the words better than someone who doesn’t know the text as intimately.

Good story, shame about the narrator

Needed different 'voices' to distinguish who was telling which bit of the story, Ms Harris just read the book rather than narrated it, so with the 1st person changing all the time it got a bit irritating to have to listen to several sentences before knowing who was 'speaking'. Her voice isn't that easy to listen to either, unfortunately, at least, I didn't find t to be.
Story was good, as you would expect, but I wonder if now is the time for Vianne to be retired?

Excellent!

So lovely to be in the world of Vianne Rocher once again! A lovely, poignant, magical tale about change, redemption, acceptance.
I think the author’s reading enhanced the Audible experience. I couldn’t stop listening. Sit back and enjoy!

Magic book, but...

I thoroughly recommend this novel, but I think it would be better read than listened to. The story is told by various narrators and although Joanne Harris has a pleasant voice and reads very well, it is difficult to recognise each character as they begin speaking and that can be momentarily confusing. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book very much. It is the best of the series since 'Chocolat'.
